The death toll is probably in the hundreds. 600 people were registered at the tower block, poor, minorities, immigrants, etc, so there might have been 1000 actually living there.
87 are in hospital. I dont know how many survived, but I would say no one above half way judging by the fire.

Not only the facelift: 20 residential floors - one stairway. And most of the elderly in the building were told "in case of fire, shut yourself in the flat, and wait for rescue"...
Heads should roll, but they won't. I have no doubt that "lessons will be learned" however. And just as quickly forgotten.

I didnt know that.
The failing here is that building regs dont disallow flammable cladding. It is utterly stupid that they dont. This kind of thing should be done better in a country like the UK, it isnt as if it is some pisspot third world dump with no standards at all.

FWIW in a large building fire that normally is the safest course of action. Barring monumental elephantups in design/construction internal firebreaks in the building should limit the flames spread to the immediate area around where they started.

Even if it is fire retardant plastics are running the red queens race and losing badly. A 1960's home with all natural fiber carpets and furniture took 20-30 minutes to go from ignition to lethal. Modern homes with plastic everywhere both have individual rooms burn faster but more open floor plans let it spread more rapidly from one part of the home to others; with the result that you only have 5 or 10 minutes to get out now.
The old advice to crawl on the floor to avoid the worst of the smoke is no longer valid either; the toxic crap from burning plastic is so heavy that the heat isn't enough to lift it to the top of the room. The least lethal air is a few feet up now, running bent at the waist is the way to go now.

It was a flat full of poor people. 8 million was spent on refurb but they didn't fit alarms or sprinklers. Instead they made the outside look pretty so rich people didn't have to look at an ugly building

One of the articles[^] in today's insider indirectly referenced improvements to High DPI support for winform apps and Touch screen support for WPF apps.
I was able to run down the winform[^] changes[^]: Some but apparently not yet all of the standard controls are DPI aware and additional events are exposed for developers who do custom layout. This is back compatible (at the level of becoming no-ops) in older versions of Windows.
I'm not having any luck finding out what the W10 WPF touch changes are though. As someone who maintains a WPF Touchscreen app knowing if and to what extent I should care about them is rather important to me. Does anyone know WTE MS has changed?

It's an opt-in change to the underlying technology used to deal with touch screens. The current touch screen implementation uses Windows Ink Services Platform, which has a number of issues (e.g. popups don't work well with WISP). The new touchscreen (and ink technology) platform is intended to fix the issues, and will continue to evolve but there are cases where you're better off staying with the WISP implementation.
