Funny story. My wife traded her F150 for an Ford Expedition at a local Nissan dealer. I had to go over there yesterday to sign a couple of things and deliver the spare key. I decided to drive the Mustang because there wasn't a cloud in the sky and it was early on a Sunday morning, meaning there were far fewer idiots likely to be on the road. When I got there, I parked right at the front door.
I went inside, and while I was waiting for said paperwork, a sales guy came up and said, "Looking to move into a Nissan?"
I replied, "Nope. All Ford, all the time."
He asked, "Can I ask why?"
I said, "Look outside". There were almost a dozen people standing around taking pictures of my car.
He said, "What am I looking at?"
I said, "Nobody's standing around taking pictures of your Nissans."
Sometimes, I really love exercising my micro-aggressions.

Hi John,
Bit off topic, but you posted yesterday about a Webly Pistol you got from your Dad (  ) was it a .38, .45 or the rarest .454 ? Do you know how it came across your side o' the pond, I'm guessing if it was issued it would a .45, aquired from a Brit service man in WWII .38, gained from a private citizen/ex Boer war type .454... I have a strange liking for the Webly due to my Dad...

It was a .455, but someone bored the barrel to remove the rifling, threaded the end of the barrel to accept a choke (and also removed the front 1/8 inch off the front sight blade), and used god-knows-what ammo (I'm assuming .45 shot ammo with moon clips) so the gun could be used as a varmint pistol.
I'm not sure if this is the way it's supposed to be, but pulling the trigger advances the (empty) cylinder, but does not draw back the hammer and fire the next round. I thought it was supposed to be a double-action revolver.
In other words, they ruined the rarest of all the Webley pistols. It's essentially worthless because a) parts are impossible to buy, and b) it would result in a pistol with non-matching serial numbers on the various major components. In fact, the cylinder is completely devoid of serial number.
It makes me angry just talking about what was done to this gun.

I do apologise! It was designed to be a dual action all Weblys (that were produced were, I believe), if you remove the rifling the accuaracy goes out the window (I think), surely not something you (at I) would want in a pistol to shoot varmints! I think some of the .455 pistol were shipped to Washington to compete against the 1911 to replace 1909 (.32 ACP?) and were modified to take .45, I wonder if this is one there should be a serial number or part on the Hammer...

I didn't notice any marks on the hammer, but I'll look when I get home.

IIRC John said something about shotshells elsewhere; for those you want an unrifled barrel.

Perhaps at the time, (seemingly quite some time ago), required functionality was more pressing than something to hang on the wall, OIOW there were a lot of varmints around, and not so many people looking to buy old and out-of-date guns (or scrap steel seeing as no ammo fitted before the mods).
I'm sure as a child you received toys that were quickly unwrapped, played with, thrown about, smashed into each other, buried in the sand pit.... that had you left them in the box today would be worth hundreds of dollars and eventually thousands to your grandchildren.

I got my first US driver's license on a Mustang. I did not own a car and couldn't rent one (did not have a credit card yet). I got a driving school instructor's car - paid him for an hour's lessons, but instead of lessons, basically rented his car for an hour. I was surprised he allowed a random brown foreign stranger to borrow his car just like that, although he did accompany me to the test location, so he did verify that I could drive. So yeah, sorry rather off-topic, but I just remembered when you told your story. Not as interesting as yours I guess.

I can relate. I also prefer Ford. And my biggest wish is to get my hands on a Mustang. Unfortunately, my wallet doesn't think it's the best of ideas at the moment...
