I'm surprised Shift-Delete still works. Along with Ctrl-Insert, Ctrl-Delete and Shift-Insert. Maybe I'll starting using those to kinda reminisce.

I stopped at Win7 - and as I've said time and again, my next upgrade will absolutely be Linux. Already running Ubuntu on a NUC and Raspberrian.
No one updates my system unless I want them to.

It will be interesting to see just how many users MS lose purely on the basis of their updates policy.
They would, I'd suspect, have had as many complaints about it as they did with the over-the-top UAC fiasco on Vista which they were happy to hasten on its way, but they just don't seem to be responding on this one.

Look - they know their customers.
They'll keep sucking it up because they don't know what else to do, except, perhaps saying "what can you do?".
As the customer base gets younger (i.e., new user generations) they become ever less aware that things don't have to be the way they are. Even if they did figure it out, they'd not put in the effort.

I was happy on win 7, had it set up the way I wanted (for dev, moving around etc)
few client machines on win10, tried it, it's not designed for devs, it really isn't. idiots yes, devs no

well hardware getting old (tech year, not people years), new hardware, particularly CPU's don't do so well on win7
then I found ubuntu (lubuntu), and the result: NO WAY I'M GOING BACK TO WINDOWS (worth shouting about)
thank you ms, thank you intel too (for cutting w7 support), thank you both for sending me to Linux.
Linux definitely is an upgrade, w10 IS NOT.

Actually, it's a new manifestation of OCD - anyplace I see a keyboard. A free service offered to all (you don't even have to ask) - if it isn't backed up then it'll likely never really missed.

Agreed. Our file server had <40GB free (out of ~4TB) a couple weeks ago. Deleting a little over 1 TB of cruft felt similar to the sensation of switching from tighty-whities to boxers.

The first British built Concorde[^] made its first test flight 50 years ago today (the French one did it on the 2nd March)
And now today, we can cross the atlantic in just under three hours!

Not just Concorde but, jets in general are slightly slower nowadays than they were some 20+ years ago, from what I understand it's to do with fuel economy and probably man made global warming - although Munchies_Matt knows much more about that than I do

It is because of fuel economy and hence running costs..
Modern jets use turbo fan engines which are a lot more economical but are a larger diameter than tradition jet engine of yesteryear. You just need to look at the diameter of an engine from a old photo of a Boeing 707 compared to a modern jet.
The large diameter engine is vastly superior on fuel and hence running cost, but are bit more of a drag. Thus reduced speed.

I don't want to brag, but 1944 we already had flight times to London under 23 minutes, but did not make it over the pond yet. The service aboard was said to be nonexistant and the landings were very rough.
Back to the topic: The Concorde was the last dinosaur of the 'at all cost or nothing' way of thinking. It sipped away too much fuel and needed too much maintainance for too few passengers to be anywhere near economic. And let's not forget the safety problems the aging birds were developing.

In fact, they became profitable by asking passengers (mostly corporate bigwigs) how much they thought their company paid for the flight, and then putting the price up to that!

Yes, of course. A prestige object like that still is only sustainable for a time. Taking a step back and making flights generally more economic and sustainable (not that we are good enough to go on like that forever) is progress, while not being so spectacular.
