So I was looking through my articles because I was digging up a link for someone, and I realized that the code that I thought was the most blaise was almost consistently the code that got the most attention.
Well I've been looking for some ideas for another article/project, and what I keep coming back to is
How about a b+ tree in C#? That would pretty neat. Database like indexing in your C# stuff.
But i know it wouldn't be appreciated as much as if i wrote some sort of webserver (like i did) or a UI widget (like i didn't).
So I have to ask myself what am i really looking for here? Well I did find that i like it when people actually *use* my stuff, so getting a few stars on a github project or a few downloads here is gratifying. It makes the effort worth it, to be honest.

maybe I'll shelve the B+ tree and look for something that's more of a shiny object.

Probably most go for the shiny because they are lazy,
a web server for instance is a complete utility, people may add/change a bit here or there but really apart from at most some interfacing all the work is done: plug in run out of the box.
a b+ tree is a much smaller component, used by itself doesn't do much and needs a lot more "application" around it.
does the guy who invented the alternator get any recognition for his part in the millions of cars that bring us around? Sure the manufacturers appreciate it but for the masses it's invisible, a few layers below the shiny, most car owners will never never see it, but it's there.
(Why would somebody buy just an alternator, it's all but useless without being part of a larger application.)
People have hard about the motor, it makes the car move, bigger ones make it go faster, shinier ones impress more people - as does the web server make the data move, shiner (more featureful) ones dio it better (??? - or so they say).
What does the alternator do, do we really need it (in fact not really), what does the b+ tree do?
so really it depends who you want as your audience, people that just want/see the shiny object regardless what's inside, or people that build the shiny objects and are fully invested in the components? There's less of the latter people so there will be less stars, but it'll be stars from smart/real people, not flocks of sheeple.
Edison [supposedly] gave us the light bulb, who invented the copper wire that connects it to the hamster? The bulb is useless without the latter, it's first thing every electrician learns. And there's more to copper wire than hooking up lights.
(And imagine if you had the patent for that.)

all good points. I suppose if I made a full ACID RDBMS in C# people might pay attention.
Hell I can already parse the sql and make a primary key index.
i'd have to add thread safety, memory mapped file support and defrag/compaction/index rebuilding at the very least. 
maybe one day. Maybe I'll build it in parts and release a nosql C# rdbms. (I could parse sql but parsing it isn't the hard part - creating execution plans is)

well i did port some code from C++ to C# in order to better understand the algo.

I've only written three articles, but the one I worked the hardest on and I thought had the highest "neato"-factor(*) had the fewest likes (and those were from friends being polite).
(*) I won't point it out to you because a big part of it was me learning how to hand-roll a parser, and that would make your brain asplode.

if you wrote TinyPG, props. It's a pretty good little LL(1) parser but i don't think that's the one your talking about.
We all learn at some point. I'm learning to write B+ trees (the kind used in primary key indexes in an RDBMS)
So I don't judge. Recently I released a little web server project here that only served one client at a time. Whoops. I had to write a whole new article and direct everyone to it. Unfortunately my flop was very popular.

I would have used regex replace to do that, but to each their own.

I considered that, but regex operates on a single string. For this application, an LTTL formula operates on an arbitrary collection of strings.

i mean, loops. but yeah, okay.
I made a lexer with rules to handle that, but it all works using regex, and in this case would have to be modified in order for the rules to do replacements. It was never really intended for that, but just probably because I already developed that if it were me I'd extend that and approach it from that angle.
