New V.92 boosts setup and upload speed
The new V.92 dialup standard promises to speed up mdoem setup, and increase upload speed to 48Kbs. The standard will also allow modem users to put their connection on hold while they field incoming calls, and will reduce the initial handshaking period from up to 30 secs to around 10 secs. Connections will also be more robust through better handling of the call waiting beep used in many phone systems.
