A forum reply is a poor way to learn basics, that's why people often get downvoted for asking such fundamental questions. The best way to learn basics, is to buy a book and work through it. If you can't afford a book, web tutorials are a poor substitute, but they can work. Forums are best for when you have some idea what you're doing but are stuck on something specific. Any question that is answered by a few lines of code, is a good forum question. Any question that requires a full explanation of EVERYTHING, requires a book.
