You have several tools
1) WMI[^], start here: Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Implementation[^]
2) ServiceController[^] class
3) SMO[^]. This example is in VB.NET, but quite easy to transcribe: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms162139(v=sql.90).aspx[^], other reading: SMO - Manage your SQL Server![^]
