I'm sorry, it must really be a stupid question, but I'm really curious what it is.

Does this indicate that most of you live in dumpy apartments? I kinda like the 16x80 mobile home I've got.

My house is not exactly a dive, but still kinda small. I'd love enough room to have a *lockable* area full of my PC gear, my guitars, etc, where I can make all the noise I want and know the kids won't be woken up, or come in to break things. Plus rooms for the kids with enough space for them to have PC's ( my four year old at least, my boy when he is old enough ), and a big yard for them to play in.

Yes and No , Igor.
I think most people tick Retire as they wish to have Financial Security, Not that they wish to totally put there feet up and Jet - about.
Most of us would happy to know we don't have to worry about the bills anymore.

Seriously, folks. I'm not rich by any means---I have chosen work that is satisfying over work that will fill my pockets. I'm not poor and I can provide for my family. I don't want to stop working---I'd love a bit more discretion about when I take big time with my family, but working like a demon is essential to feeling good. What I would really like that I don't have is to be able to do some heavyweight giving to causes and charities that I believe in.
Is this a priority for anyone else?

I know where you're coming from. A few of my friends think that I'm nuts for having not pursued a job opportunity which would have tripled my salary. The thing is, I work to support my family and I support my family because of my system of priorities. Though money would be great, there are a lot of other things that keep me right where I am for now.
As a result, I can't give as much as I would like to churches, charities, and needy people -- but I still make sure I give what I can. After all, if I don't give what I can now, how can I know that I won't spend the loads of money on myself later?

Well, what about goin' for the bucks so you can fund your own software company? That would serve the need to work your tail off, and if you had an office in hte house you could still be with your family, and if it took off, you could help fund charities with whatever's above a threshold of what you consider enough to have a decent lifestyle for you and your family.

I'm similar to you JG,
But the problem about me giving to causes is that even I admit some of the causes I support or would like to start
are Loony Crazy, and of the wall !

Where I live, the taxes are around 55-65% - so no, I don't relly feel like giving anything to charity.
