Not to excited with the new metro look yet...
I haven't used it yet, but it seems like the most overrated 'technique' (it's really a UI, right?) of the moment.
Although it seems to work really well on phones (I'll get a Windows Phone just for that)!
The Windows Runtime looks pretty cool though.
But WHY do I have to learn a whole new framework just as I was getting to know .NET better?
I'll probably get Windows 8 at the same time as I will get a new computer... Not anytime soon.
It's an OO world.

That's computer programing for you. That's how I felt with the Win32->dotNet transition.

I downloaded it on the first day but I have not installed it yet. I have no time to do that even as a virtual box guest. Although I am somewhat put off that the start menu is still gone. And that is also partly the reason for not installing.

All these years, the MS OS is keyboard/mouse oriented, now they say this Windows 8 is touch oriented. To get the best out of it I need to make my desktop touch supportive and I don't want to do it NOW.
And many souls are already shouting not to install it, unless you are ready to format/burn your hard disk and particularly if you are using XP.
So lets wait untill the evil bogies are handled. No hurry

I had installed the developer preview earlier....and it was quite unstable. Consumer Preview is said to be stable...
Also Windows 8 is more for touch screens and tabs. Still i am asking myself: Do I really need this update?

You don't need to format the HD. You can use Partition Wizard[^] to shrink your main partition and create a new one just to install W8. It's very straightforward and I've used this software myself many times to do just that.

The answer is virtualization.

Let me correct that for you:
"One of the answers is virtualization"
I say that because most scenarios have their own optimal solution.
