My favorite color scheme for text editor.

Whenever I'm given a ridiculous deadline (alarmingly frequently these days) and have to work as fast as possible by myself with the least amount of resources, switching to a light text on a dark background seems to be more comfortable. I use Sublime[^] when this is necessary (BTW, it's highly recommended).
When the deadline is more relaxed or I have to collaborate and use an IDE, it's vanilla black on white.

black on white burns the corneas.

My (windows system) window color is gray - the borders of The Code Project are gray, but CP is white background/dark text, whether I like it or not.

Yes, as in my "White on Blue" post below. It also reminds me of WordPerfect.

All this years I used to white background and dark text, but after expending so many hours in front of the computer... maybe i will try a change

It would be pointless if all the text were the same colour!

... on black, at least when I'm back to hex keyboards and seven segment displays
Honestly, I just use whatever development tools are available and usually don't spend much time decorating. If the editor's colors are yet another religious topic, then I'm an atheist. Are there not better things to do then play with the IDE's colors?

I get headaches if I stare at a program with a white background for more than a couple hours, so I have to use a dark background to get anything significant done.

I figured if I have to glue to the screen 8-10 hours a day and do the eyes a bit favor, black background is easier, beside its old DOS habit . White background to me is like staring at a flourescent light all day long.

Moreover, Dark pixels consume less energy than light pixels. Hence going greener in a way, you see.

A black background has helped to keep my eyes sharp during my 30 years of coding. Staring at a bright white light for 8+ hours a day is just asking for trouble.

For me after 1 week trying a dark background light text my eyes were painful and my vision blurred even when not looking at a screen. Since reverting to white background and black text my eyes are back to 20/20 and no pain. (I have been staring at a monitor for over 10 years with this and my eyesight is perfect). So I seriously think light text on dark background is harmful.. I wonder do you wair glasses already? (all the people who seem to prefer light on dark seem to)

My eyes are pretty close to perfect so far. No glasses yet.
My black background preference might have to do with the good old DOS prompt. Back when I really fell in love with computers, 1980, Windows wasn't born yet.
Black background, fixed width raster fonts, and I'm a happy coder

Of course you can change it, but I've set the color selection panel to "black and white". Because.
