OriginalGriffs!
(I'll attempt to *really* answer this after I sober up.)
((Not that I'm actually drunk, for I'm at work; merely for the comedy of it.))
(((Hmmm. DuplicateGriffs sounds interesting!)))
((((Just wanted to add a line to use 4 parens...))))

I'm a big fan of C#, Mono, and WPF so:
Legends: Anders Hejlsberg, Miguel de Icaza
Rockstars: people like Sacha Barber, Bea Stollnitz, Jon Skeet
Inspirations: people who release a lot of quality Code Project articles and open source like Mehdi Gholam
The (borderline crazy and/or borderline genius) inventors and dreamers: people who invented Boo, with its metaprogramming abilities (and the Unity3D people who promote it), & the guy who has been pushing synchronous reactive programming http://www.rebelscience.org/Cosas/Reliability.htm[^]

No one, you are powered with bacon should be there isn't it?
|
|
|
|

Isn't it just assumed that programmers are powered by bacon, caffeine and pizza?
Just because the code works, it doesn't mean that it is good code.

|

No, no, no...
we are bacon and pizza powered... coffee is a mere lubricant and something we transport: see here[^]

Ah, yes, the coffee (and other caffeinated beverages) are needed to wash down the bacon and pizza.
Just because the code works, it doesn't mean that it is good code.

Just like most of us in this poll, I am self-driven myself. Computers and programming is really fun because you get to create 'Platonic' entities that you get to watch 'living' and 'breathing'! It appears to me that we are heading towards a new kind of culture and civilization which embraces knowledge and perhaps one day restore humanity's divine status.

Actually, I said "Other" because I got influenced by one in each of the top 4 groups...
Linus Torvald was an inspiration to me during my student years, then came Scott Hanselman when I started using Microsoft tools and platforms, I was awed by Ayende Rahien for the way he approached the development of RavenDB and finally Marc Clifton has always been a good help even though I never asked him a question directly, I found a lot of posts and answers he made to other people that faced the same problems I did.....
Too bad, this survey was pick only one.....

Mark Russinovich => The first. If you use the sysinternals Tools he already saved your life, if you read his Windows Internals books no bug will ever defeat you on Windows. Deep knowledge with pragmatic application.
Martin Fowler => Wrote great books on design patterns, but you have to be careful to not overuse what he shares. He is the primary cause of over engineering illness in young developers. (I got already got sick with it)

I do this as a hobby, definitely no plans to ever make it a career. That said, my greatest programming influence is you guys here on CP. My biggest drive is just my love of creating code that is useful.
Within you lies the power for good - Use it!

Suprised this wasn't an option, I am most inspired by game devs who have made it big going solo. People like Markus Persson (Notch, the guy who made Minecraft).

I was totally thinking the same thing. So successful indie dev ..... that's somewhere between Top Peers and Inspirations maybe.

I have learned new languages because it's where some of the funnest jobs were. I am in this profession for the fun of it and often proclaim that I am amazed they pay me to do this.

One success (Wolfenstien) and one HUGE success (Doom / Quake), both as part of a damn good team, and then he's off on his own, promising so much. Years late he produces a POS that plays like a dead dog and makes everybody wonder just how much of the big success was really his work...
