I knew, But I use default - no need to change that
Till now default font is looking good no need to change that, as for programming font should be simple not designer eg:Consolas(used in visual studio); Arial; Calibri ; etc....

Discovered an interesting typeface yesterday - Fira Code[^], which is monospaced but includes ligatures for common character combinations, so != looks like a mathematical inequality, likewise less than or equal, -> and => become arrows.

My favorite all-time font for programming was the Ohlfs font (named for it's creator, Keith Ohlfs, who recently passed away at age 52 ) that was part of the NeXTStep OS. I'm currently using Menlo, which isn't too bad.

I'd never even thought about it either (turns out to be Consolas for VS and Courier for SSMS, by the way).
Whilst looking, though, I did come across a font that I hadn't previously heard of called Elephant. I wonder if it was created by a mischievous CP regular.

Now I have to sit and test every one of these fonts. Thanks for wasting my day!
In the end I'll likely keep the default anyway.

I find proportional easier to read, and MS Reference Sans is unambiguous for all the commonly-confused chars.
Why must everyone use mono-spaced fonts? The IDE can handle proportional, the whitespace indentations are fixed, you get better use of your screen real-estate without squishing "M" and "W" past all recognition, and it's just prettier. It's 2016. Free your mind.

Not until I came upon this poll did I really care about what font my IDEs were using.
When I code HTML/PHP I use NetBeans and I went through the font listed in the poll, well those I have available, and found I prefer Consolas... lol
Goes to show that you never know what you're missing until you try it... lol

I like this font a lot. That is one of the first things I install on a new (Windows) PC and use it for Visual Studio and shell.

Don't let the word "Courier" through you off.
Clean, and unlike it's near-namesake, rather easy on the eyes.
Not decorative and basically sans-serif, excepting a few chars that make sense( 'I', i, 'l'
