Don't let the word "Courier" through you off.
Clean, and unlike it's near-namesake, rather easy on the eyes.
Not decorative and basically sans-serif, excepting a few chars that make sense( 'I', i, 'l'

I agree, your "courier" is nice. But look at Source Code Pro - it's very close, but letters are bit higher and easier to read.

I'll probably give it a test drive.
One criteria that I often don't think of directly is viewing a decent number of lines concurrently without too small a font. I'm wondering if the height difference will make a difference once I scale to my comfort size. Could go either way.
FontSquirrel sure has a lot of versions of it!

Unfortunately there is "health minimum" for font size. If you don't wanna be Harry Potter, better set "normal" size and buy more LCD inches. Currently I have 32" in portrait mode - it's a really huge amount of lines!

Hack and VeraMono are now crystal clear to me with MacType.
BTW, I hate ClearType.

I really never paid it any attention until it was brought up last week in the lounge. I had to go and look. Turns out I'm using Courier New and Consolas mostly.

The only requirement is...
1 != l (L low case) != I (i Upper case)
O != 0 (and even better is zero has the point in the middle)
and any other possible confussions are avoided

I know a person who uses Comic Sans as his programming (and writing) font.
Yes, Comic Sans.
He is a sadist.
What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?
The metaphorical solid rear-end expulsions have impacted the metaphorical motorized bladed rotating air movement mechanism.
Do questions with multiple question marks annoy you???

You also need a clear distinction between "0" and "O", and "1" and "l" - which is not the case in all non-proportional fonts.
