Hey,
Why didn't we have beer on the list? We are more than just coders and software purchasers....we are good drinkers too!!!

It would be quite interesting to see what percentage of CPian's live where. I'm sure the info is there from our bio's - I would love to see what percentage of us live on which continent. How many don't speak English and C++ as first languages, etc
I've always heard that there was an idea behind Win ME... I still can't figure out what that was... anyboy know??? I;ve herad the idea was that it was supposed to be n operating system but I doubt this. - Brian Delahunty

tut tut Megan. I thought you would have known that. It's very outdated thought.. the stats show only 30,000 or so members.

I'm surprised some script isn't linked to members signing up. CP always seems to be a few steps ahead of me

It would probably be too much strain on the servers to call lup that information everytime somebody look sat the demographics page.

It's a shame that there wasn't a question asking what type of application was being developed. I guess it probably would've been tricky to make a concise list, but it'd still be interesting to see what kinds of things people work on

Curiosity cured:
Software developed:
C# tools that allow the externalization of business rules via XML
that interoperate with other tools (ours) that generate business objects
than dynamically compile into executable code.
now that is a CONCISE entry.
Oh yeh, I also do 3D models and game development in my spare time.
Now THAT would be an interesting question: What do you develop in your own time?

I was looking at the options again, and realised there should have been a new one:
Decline to pay you
Actually, I came in the $25,000 to $49,999 range, very close to one end of the scale.
But I am not saying which!

Hmm.. if they decline to pay you, then why are you working for them?

I always think companies should be legally obliged to publish everyone's salaries - but then I always was a bit of as troublemaker.
Can you believe that my last company put a clause in employment contracts which threatened disciplinary action if you revealved your salary to a co-worker? Just a means of avoiding fair pay I think.
Personally, if someone asks my salary I'll tell them. Not many do though!

The company I work for does that as well. In the past they have come un-stuck when a key member of staff left because they were paid less than their helper (the helper had more years at the company).
I hate all the secrecy stuff.

So, how much are you paid? *

Me too. I know one guy ayt my last company who got a substantial pay rise when he spotted an ad for a job which looked suspicously like his own....it turns out the company was looking to expand his department, and was offering a higher salary for the post. Fair play to him!
Roger Allen wrote:

£41,050 p.a. + bonus (you did ask... ).
I've been quite lucky - not only is my company very supportive, but they pay well too (my last company didn't - I went from £24k to £35k when I switched jobs).
Divorce and personal issues aside, the only problem I have really is that the cost of living (and housing in particular) in South East England is rising much faster than salary...but everyone has the same problem there.

They do pay well. I am on £32,000 after 9 years at the same company. I started on £12,000! We do get a yearly bonus which was £5000 before tax last year. I also trade in my holidays for cash so over all I may *just* reach £40K. But no holidays ever
I am also the highest paid developer here.
Where do you work? I may need to apply for a job!

They are very good to me, especially when you consider the personal problems I've had (gender issues aside, I've had a lot of problems at home).
I started at Racal Instruments[^] on £10,600 in 1989, and after 9 years moved to Sonardyne in 1998.
Before the move I was on about £24,000, but adding about £11-12,000 in overtime (60-65 hours a month, and it was killing me). To make matters worse, the next rise I got would have taken me above the dreaded overtime threshold...
So, I basically went looking for another job which didn't involve me working a 12 hour day for the same money, and ended up here after sending my CV to 24 recruitment agencies!

You get overtime????
Over here (US) they declare us as 'professionals'. You see, as a professional, that means that you earn a salary and they pay you the same whether you work 40 hours or 90 hours!!!

I only wish I saw most of it Christian!
The monthly bills come to around £1300 a month, then there's petrol, food and so on...you know the story.
It's about to get even more complicated because I'll be paying half the mortgage for a while, as well as saving for surgery (about £10,000), paying for a new place and child maintenance.
When it all kicks in I doubt there'll be much left over at the end of the month - but at least I won't have a huge overdraft on a joint account to deal with as well!
I'll find a way - I'm a pretty resilient person.

I actually got fired from a job for disclosing to a co-worker what I was paid. To make it worse (at least to me) was that I was working as a fork lift operator and my discloser was having some of my co-workers over for some beers. One of them say a pay stub and took a peek. I got fired a week later cause my co-worker kept at my boss about why I was making 6 bucks an hour more then him. That was I found out they had one of those clause in the employment contract too! I was only 18 at the time so it wasn't like I lost a career... but still.
