Peterchen is an experiment in chaos theory, so the less defined, clear and precise, the better.

That explains a lot! But is he a fractal capable of producing unique and beautiful things, or merely a clever space-filling function?

ohhh, as long as
A manager who understands what you are working on: 4
it's ok with me
Actually, I always knew what I was coding (at least what I was *supposed to* code) until now, and have enough influence on what we do to make me happy (as long as it works out). So I don't know really, but if you have
Good Tea: 5+
No interruptions while working: 4
A monitor with >75Hz refresh: 5+
A window seat and/or good scenery: 5
who cares about the rest?

...of the company is #1 for me. Maybe for some people a salary is enough, but I have found out that for me it is not.
Oh and here my second option; The CP survey being there ready to vote on when I come into work on monday morning...

Right on.
But, what happens when the company's vision is to just make money?
Screwed?

Mine would be to understand why Microsoft thinks that MSN IM 4.7 and MSN IM 5.0 need to coexist on the same machine.

Guess so. Though there is one worse: A bankrupt, visionless company

That I can't answer... but they are different from the Messenger service, which can pop up annoying message boxes on your screen if spammers get your IP address..

I have found that company vision and good salaries are mutually exclusive.
I worked for IBM - they pretty much define "vision" though they have trouble following through. The pay sucked.
And I've worked for mid-sized completely visionless companies who have paid gobs for me to not give a sh*t.
It's a truly odd world.
