man, that is just crazy hardcore.
I set up a team foundation server the other day (from Partition to TFS) and the terminal in the server room didnt have a mouse. let me tell you, I've always thought that all those accessibility features were a waste of time but they were pretty handy that day.
I cant imagine operating a computer w/ out a mouse...
thats worse than using a mac

I was having troubles with my shoulder (and wrist) for a while with a standard optical mouse. I even switched to being a lefty for a while and that helped for about two years until that shoulder went the same way
The trackball is great because only your thumb does the walking and my shoulders are doing fine now. I even use a regular mouse at home without troubles (far less time in front of a computer at home).
At first the trackball is a big change and really frustrating. It took a good week before I got the handle of things.
I totally recommend a trackball if you are pulling long hours in front of the screen. Save yourself the discomfort of repetitive strain injuries and treat yourself to one!

I absolutely agree! I'm a trackball user myself. I can't use a mouse for any more than a few minutes before I start to feel pain in my wrists and then it spreads up to my sholders within a few hours.
I have to admit though that it is quite funny to watch people at work trying to use my trackball. I keep telling them to place their palm on it flat, but they insist in trying to use it it with just their fingertips - which just makes it slide across the desk.

Have you tried to do some other sport than using a mouse? It usually helps alot!

I have been using track balls for longer than I care to admit, and currently have a LogiTech Marble Mouse[^]
one at work and one at home, and I swear by them ... I have NEVER had wrist problems, sholder issues or the like, and I can out 'point' mouse users any day of the week.

I voted for optical mouse since I am using the Logitech MX 510... I am curious what is new in the laser mouse...

a laser.
I used to use the mx510 at home. When I came to work at the compay I'm at now, They bought me the mx1000 and wow. I had to get one for home too.
its much more sensitive than the optical. One winter night, it was really cold, and I had a blanket wrapped around me, and I put it on the desk too (too cold for my arm to touch) and was able to play battlefield2 using the comforter as my mouse pad... it worked the same on the blanket as it did on the desktop.

Hmmm, I never would have considered "blanket friendly" as a selling point for a mouse. Could be an untapped market.

might be more of the mousepad industry's arena, but I'm sure there are all sorts of things that could be used (unlimited potential): small children, bear rugs, old sneakers... I mean wow.
