You do realize they only booked the hotel for the first week?

At least we got to book one at all
(It's a pretty difficult group this time. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we make it to the knockout stages.)

I am going to support them[^].

I once was a soccer fan. Spent hours watching on TV and going to the Stadium. I watched every single game of the USA world cup when I was little. I used to support my local team, went to the stadium even by -8°C once.
But all this has turned to a farce. Billions of money spent by Brazil while starving children will not be allowed to come close to the stadiums (security!). Billions spent by Qatar to host a world cup while I could alone win against their national team. Billions spent by rich people, whom we do not know how they got all that money from, to build "teams" where one player is jealous of the other's salary - Oh, I am only earning 10€ every time I breathe.
This is shocking. Soccer is rotten. FIFA/UEFA is a bunch of corrupt nababs. No way we can call that sport anymore, this time is long gone.

I, like you, used to be an avid Football fan.
I used to have a season ticket, went to all the home matches, some away matches, watched any footy match on TV whoever it was.
Then I don't know, I just got bored of all the shameful cheating, play acting, over hyped players and immature behaviour of most 'professional' footballers.
I now, generally only watch the 'good' teams (Real Madrid, Barcelona etc) and now like to spend my few free hours watching Cricket - much more of a man's game.

In England football is a far more honest game below the Premiership.
It's not most professional footballers, but it is unfortunately most of the ones playing at the top end of the game.
Last time Derby were in the Prem we were terrible, worst team in history, the top teams could beat us without even trying, yet still they cheating, dived, chased the referee, argued every decision. They just couldn't help themselves.
Even just the one division lower things are far, far more honest.

I'm going to support any law that prevents the looting of cultural heritage[^]. In Jordan there is a Necropolis overlooking the dead sea, 100,000s of individuals buried there and because of the dry climate and salty air lots of organic material preserved, including cloth (really rare - parts of the site pre-date Israel 1.0). When I first visited Jordan, the surface was flat and undisturbed. Now it looks like it has been pounded by a meteorite shower, you can field-walk and find bits of human, cloth and splinters of wooden items all, needless to add, invaluable in their context but near worthless when disturbed.
As for the footba' I'm a Scotland supporter: I support any team that England is playing so the whole mummer's farce is ended as soon as possible

Yep, sounds about right.

Are you Scottish? I thought you were a Geordie.

Someone, not me, definitely not me, once said that Geordies are simply Scotts with brain damage.
But it wasn't me.

Was that a Scotsman by any chance. We say much the same thing, but the other way round.

I am a Geordie, but hate football with a passion, the sooner the nonsense is over the better IMO.
This pretty much nails Geordie vs English[^] thing, everyone I know from round here supports England, but many think they have more in common with folk north of the border than the rest of England without actually considering themselves Scots.I do know people who would vote to move the People's Republic of Tyneside and its environs into Scotland.

I've just built myself a nice Access DB to keep track of my Gym workouts to keep me focused on the gym (always on an eye on progression not stagnation and boredom).
During the build I sidetracked to build myself a little WinForms app to auto generate some Access VBA Class code rather than having to write it all out for another Access DB (which I had an idea about).
Easy peasy, whacked it together in virtually no time at all...then it struck me...I have absolutely no idea about WPF!
So, my new mission, which I accept, well sort of accept, sort of dread - is to learn WPF!!!
(Which I will only be able to do in my 'spare' time outside of work, seeing as that I don't do C# in my day to day stuff).
So, I've just bought "WPF 4.5 Unleashed" by Adam Nathan, and shall begin be working my way through that - with the ambition to turn my Access DB into a WPF application, and maybe to ditch the Access backend altogether replaced by something that I haven't decided yet.
Anyone got any quick tips, gotchas, helpful hints, 'beware of' or any other words of wisdom before I begin my fraught and perilous journey??

words of wisdom (ish) : build the model / data classes first before you event vaguely get started on the UI as it is too difficult to do massive change to the bindings later on.
