"Aluminium club (gold backed), with bridge place second, round one's neck is trouble! "(9)
Nice and easy to end the week.

round one's neck is trouble! ALBATROSS (see The Rime of the Ancient Mariner)
One of these days I'm going to think of a really clever signature.

Whilst you were typing "Pipped at the post" I was typing "Just Pipped"
What strange alignment of stars there were in those far off distant days.

It's not often I beat you. Actually, it's not often that I even solve them.

Thanks, I just had an image of a suspension bridge in my brain. No, I don't play but maybe I should learn.

aluminium = al
club = bat
gold = or =>> backed = ro
bridge place = s (south)
second = s

Thank you for the reminder, as it is definitely a TGIF for me.
Having goofed off since midday on Friday 21st December, and restarted Monday 7th January, I have found this last week extraordinarily tedious.

It is your fault for going into IT.
You should have gone into the fast moving and exciting world of Management Accounts.

Part of the tedium was having to complete my VAT return for the last quarter.
In Cyprus, it is a truly modern and up-to-date process, using the very latest technology - feet.
0. You receive the form by post - but as there is no direct delivery, you have to go to your P.O.Box at the post office to collect it.
1. You fill in the form with all the relevant data, and then you have to take the form to your bank, pay the amount due, and get the two top copies stamped by the bank - they keep the third copy.
2. You then take the remaining two copies to the VAT office, where they keep the top copy, and stamp and return the second copy to you.
I won't detail the method of paying personal tax - not even the most hardened management account could possibly handle the excitement.
