I think it was the Russians who sabotaged your experience of the eclipse out of pure spiteful envy!

I drove to southern Illinois to watch the total eclipse. Really without glasses there wasn't much noticeable difference until the blockage was hitting the 100% mark. Even a minute or two before hand it was almost full brightness glancing up at the sun without my glasses on. Sure the horizon wasn't quite the same shade of blue, but no real change in ambient light levels.
During those two minutes of darkness though, WOW! I got chills from both the sheer beauty of it and the temperature drop.

Ya, I wish I had known that ahead of time. I could have driven about an hour to be in the 100% zone.

I know. We're not meant to look directly.
But seriously: that's like putting a hole in a wall with a sign "do not look through this hole".

We got a partial eclipse here. Quite cool.

I did wear my sunglasses and the cloud cover enabled me to see enough...we had around 90% coverage here. I really did try to do the pinhole camera, but it wasn't working...so yeah, I looked.

I was outside 50 minutes ago and had already forgot about it. Supposedly we were to get 86% coverage, but all I saw was haze; c'est la vie!

I was scheduled in a meeting for all but 12 minutes of the eclipse . It's not as much of a disappointment as it sounds, since our weather was fairly overcast today. I've seen it get darker just before a line of thunderstorms came through.

In Montréal, today, we will only have a 58% moon coverage.
But just making a simple pin-hole "camera" to see the eclipse and take a few minutes to go out and try it out is really fun.

Our code has only about 3% coverage, 58% isn't so bad!

Sun coverage. FTFY.
I think we'd know if the sun got in-between the moon and the Earth.

When I was little we used to take a shallow stainless steel vessel and fill it with water and put it outside and we can easily see reflection of sun and eclipse.

I was amazed to see (via TV coverage) so many idiots taking flash photos of the eclipse!
