So I've been given the word: learn android development. Fortunately, my bank gave me a Samsung Galaxy something or other a couple of months ago so I have a handy test-bed I don't care much about.
So, step one seems to be to get a development environment. Or connecting the device to Google so I can get "Apps" and see what everyone does with these things. Perhaps that should be step one.
My first source? Turn to CP. But - take note - I didn't post a Q&A.
I'm just looking at articles and the environments they used. Once I get started on this Sisyphean [^] adventure, I'll get back to you all.
Most likely, in a Soapbox appropriate manner.

I did hear Xamarin is built into VS now, and that it's free. But didn't know about Petzold's book. Back in the days, 'Petzold's book' used to be the windows programming one.

Seems like something I might get installed, anyway, as I'm migrating my work platforms to Win7*. I'll need to check if my MSDN subscription is up-to-date for that. Checking, it seems that it will install on Win7, so I'm OK with your suggestion in that regard. And, of course, there's a world of open source.
For some reason I maintain a bad attitude - like I won't be having fun. A good time for me to be wrong. On the bright side, my progeny will be delighted I can make toys for them. Perhaps I'll even get rich. And famous.
The above notwithstanding, thanks for what could be an all-in-one solution should resource procurement permit.
* I stay with and develop on what everyone (here) uses - thus, as the last XP disappears I'll finally update since I'll have nothing to more to support.
