...but it sure feels like it. I got my shot on Monday (yes, I know it is very late). Yesterday I was aching all over and I was really tired. Today I don't ache as much, but I have started coughing.
Before I got the shot, I had the sniffles for about a week and sinus pressure headaches had started to set in.
It can't be too long before they have to pack the dirt on top of me

You don't get the flu from the flu shot.
You do get it from all those diseased, bug ridden, coughing, sneezing sick people in the waiting room with you when you went for the shot.
If you get an email telling you that you can catch Swine Flu from tinned pork then just delete it. It's Spam.

Perhaps you have a cold instead. Usually there will be a fever associated with flu and the onset is also quite rapid. Hours instead of days.
Oh and the flu shot will do nothing against a cold virus.

A cold is very likely. I forgot to mention that my throat has also been getting more and more scratchy the last couple of mornings (BTW, that goes great with the coughing ).
I think most of my symptoms come from walking the dogs in the cold evenings. We have been flirting with actual freezing temperatures at night here in Southern California and I just don't have the clothes for that. Well, I do, but boxed up at my parent's place back in Denmark.
We have some cold nights coming up, so I think I have to go and buy a hat and maybe a scarf.

I've only had the flu twice in my life. I've only had a flu shot twice in my life. Yep, same times - I got the flu a week or two after having a flu shot both times.
Now, I know intellectually that the shot doesn't cause the flu, as my doctor has pointed out. But 2 out of 2? Sorry, I've always passed on the flu shots ever since and I haven't gotten the flu since.

That is pretty damaging to the statistics.
I have probably gotten the flu shot 8-10 out of the past 15 years, but it has been a couple of years now and I did get the flu about 2 years ago. I went to have it done because of what I have seen on the news. It is getting really bad here in the US and I might have been procrastinating too long.

I've had flu for nearly two weeks now, first time ever and it has been very unpleasant.
We get offered flu shots at work cos of the industry I work in but I've never bothered.
My wife and daughter both had them as they are asthmatic and neither have had any symptoms whilst I've been ill.

that might be why they always ask, before giving you a flu shot, if you are already sick.
|
|
|
|
|
They did ask and I told them, but they did not seem worried.
I think you are saying that the side effects to getting the flu shot (CDC link)[^] might be hitting me harder because I had some stuff going on before I got it. That seems plausible.

right.
they always ask me if i'm already sick before i get one. i've never been sick so i don't know what the effects could be, but i assume there's some reason...

What on earth are you supposed to get from a flu shot?
|
|

Yes, I suppose the official term is Influenza Virus Vaccine, but flu shot (not flushot) seems to be used consistently in the news and around the Internet.
I am not sure if you are mocking my misuse of the English language, that normally comes from our friends across the pond , or if you are setting me up for a humorous comeback. In any case, let me have it so I can see how bad it will make me look .

We call 'em flu shots over here as well.
Nobody does goofier things with the English language than Americans.
I wasn't really making fun of you, but rather, just picking on terminology that we use over here as well.

Tough luck: I don't have the shots but am just getting to the end of a bout of flu or something like it. Not pleasant, not pleasant at all.

You do get a small dose of the bugs to allow your body to then build a defense against it.
As a result of these after effects we no longer administer flu shots to the offshore population while they are offshore. They must get them at home and at least a week before they are to return to work.
|
|
|
|
|
I think that is a good policy. Do you have a requirement that they must get the shot? It seems to be pretty bad for all parties if the flu starts spreading on a platform.
