hiho@ll
i try to do something like a newsticker on a browser helper object
the problem is that the helper object is made using ATL and i want to use CStatic (because there are some classes, which scroll text using a CStatic)
my problem is that CStatic is a MFC class and i need it for my ATL browser object!?
are there alternatives or other controls i could use for my problem?
btw, is it possible to convert my BHO to a MFC BHO?
or is MFC BHO not supported by IE?
if it's possible, how can i do it (easily, without troubles?)
I'm using Visual Studio .NET
thx

You can not directly add a mfc class to ATL.

and how can i make just a simple static text control in ATL?

You already have one. A static control (STATIC ) is a regular Windows control, just like BUTTON , EDIT , etc.
You are still going to have to do some drawing yourself; the regular static control works by characters, and does not "smooth scroll" like a news/stock ticker.
Peace!

Using CreateWindow, you just specify the string _T( "STATIC" ) as the window class name, IIRC.
I think that ATL's window classes have a wrapper class for the static control.

i got this out of an article:
Converting a metafile to a 24-bit color bitmap is simple. Just follow these steps:
Create the memory DC.
Create the device-independent bitmap.
Select the bitmap to the created memory DC.
Draw in this DC.
Select the old bitmap to DC.
I have the Metafile Created. Howevere the above instructions do not make any sense. can anayone please help me?

here it is with no error checking and no cleanup - both of which are very important.
HDC memDC = ::CreateCompatibleDC(hDC);
HBITMAP memBmp=::CreateCompatibleBitmap(hDC, w, h);
HBITMAP oldBMP = (HBITMAP)::SelectObject(memDC, memBmp);
::PlayEnhMetaFile(memDC, emf, &tRex);
::SelectObject(memDC, oldBMP );

You have a handle to a COM port but you don't know which COM port (e.g., 1, 2) it is, right? How did you acquire this handle?

I have a question. Why do you hook the read file API????? Do you want to hook COM ports? I would instead create a filter driver on top of \device\serial0, serial1, etc. You can read the object manager's Dos Device Name for "COMx" and see what device it's associated with as well, which is usually \device\serial0 in most cases, but not all.
However, it is a much cleaner method of hooking "ReadFile" and you're only called for COM ports (Unless the device is used for multiplex for multiple devices, which is a different story all together.).

http://www.sysinternals.com
download "Windows Object Viewer" click ong "\\??" or "\\Global" Look for "COM1". It's a symbolic link to a device such as "\Device\Serial0".
A device driver installs itself on the system as "\device\whatever". Applications want to be abstracted from being tied to any one particular device so a common set of "dos device names" are created so the application only uses the common name, which in the background, can be serviced by any device. Your driver letters are all dos device names as well.

Hi,
I am developing an application in MFC/VC++ 6.0. I need to draw a bitmap image in a dockable toolbar and the view area should have scrolling enabled.
I thought that embedding a CScrollView derived class in the dialog box would help while declaring a custom control as the placeholder while designing the dialog box.
However, I don't know how to manually wire in the CScrollView class. I even don't know whether there is any easier way to do this.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

Hi!
I'm developing an application using MFC. I've implemented Context sensitive help for the controls but is unable to do so for edit box.
In case of edit box, on right click of the mouse it displays the default help in place of my help.
Kindly help me on this,
Thanks

I guess in Context Sensitive help, you cannot right click.
For a proper Context Sensitive help - click on the question mark on toolbar, the question mark gets attached to your mouse pointer and left click on the control for which you need help info.
Either a small popup window opens or a html page opens to provide information
First you should choose whether you want html context sesitive help or windows context sensitive help
Then override the respective virtual functions
