Hello,
In the "location path="home.aspx..." section you
say that all anonymous users have access to this site (by using allow=?). Use deny instead of
allow:
<location path="Home.aspx">
<system.web>
<authorization>
<deny users ="?"/>
</authorization>
</system.web>
</location>
Otherwise, this page is not protected. Also, dont mix session and forms authentication timeout.
Hope i'm right and this helps.

Hi,
I have a grid view to which i am binding data from the employees table.
I am also displaying first name and last name in grid view. now i want the first name and last name under one main sub header name. Below is the example.
EmployeeId ContractNo ContactNo EmployeeName Summary
First Last
----------------------------------------------------------------
E001 Co123456 900878634 Xyz Abc PQR
I the above example i want First and Last below the EmployeeName as a subheader, means EmployeeName acts as a main header for First and last.
I also need to provide sorting on EmployeeName.
Can any one suggest me a solution by some code example or some useful link regarding this in order to provide subheader inside one main header in the same format.
solution will be highly appreciated.
Regards,
Pranav Dave

Hi,
I have a web page that uses the AJAX framework. Basically you choose something in a dropdown and click a button and the page is partially refreshed to show a gridview(which is inside an UpdatePanel with the trigger as the button). You choose a different option and click Go, the gridview is updated accordingly.
Now, I want to use sqlcachedependency in codebehind (since I'm not using SQLDatasource and doing it all programmatically). In my code, I have the code to populate the dropdown in Page_Load and in the Gridview_Load, I create my SQLCommand object. I found the following code and seems pretty simple:
SqlCacheDependency dependency = new SqlCacheDependency(comm);
int expire = 3;
DateTime exp = DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(expire);
Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Public);
Response.Cache.SetExpires(exp);
Response.Cache.SetValidUntilExpires(true);
Response.AddCacheDependency(dependency);
But the question is, where do I put the code to ensure the DB isn't queried and data is actually retrieved from Cache??? Should I put it before or after my SQLDataAdapter.Fill in Gridview_Load? Or is it somewhere else?
Thanks in advance

Hi guys,
I want to check in my application the expiration of session in order to demand the user to reconnect.. or just lock the current page.
I'm using the code in example Prevent Session Timeout in ASP.NET[^] wich work great.
At the end of session I show an Ajax modalPopup asking for reconection..but.... from my pages I can open popup windows to continue edit data.
Then, the problem is:
I have a main page with javascript code running decrementing the session time, when I open a popup window the session timeout restart but the javascript in main page continue counting the old timeout.. So, I get main page locked when I'm using popup windows.. and when session is stil active.
I need a way to restart the javascript in main page, or better, to really check if session is valid from javascript code in the main page before to lock the page.
any hint ??
thanks a lot

Yes, sure, I can do it, but I'm looking for some other solution to keep independient popup windows from parent.
I have a lot of popup windows to implement it.. so I would like to do it once in the parent.
Thanks anyway.

Hi Guys
I'm a bit of a newb to the joys of ASP.NET, and I have a bit of a problem...
I'm trying to use windows authentication with my app as it's intended for intranet.
I have the following in my main web.config:
<authentication mode="Windows"/>
<authorization>
<allow users="*"/>
<deny users="?"/>
</authorization>
And I have the following in the config file of a directory that I only want certain users to see:
<configuration>
<appSettings/>
<connectionStrings/>
<system.web>
<authorization>
<allow users="unswortp"/>
<allow users="HO\unswortp"/>
</authorization>
</system.web>
</configuration>
My problem is the restrictions on the folder will not allow me to get into that folder when deployed to the IIS server, although it works fine on my development machine. I cant help but think that the Windows Credentials it is using are not on the local machine, but on the server, so once deployed to the server, I have no chance.
Am I doing something wrong? or is this just the way the windows authentication works in ASP.NET Apps?
Is there something else I need to set up?
Also, how would I pluck the Windows Username of the end user programatically?
oooo, the Jedi's will feel this one....

Hai all,
I have a doubt.
I have both .net 1.X and 2.0 applications and both the versions of VS were installed in my machine.
If i migrate my vs 2003 app to vs2005,and before that i have taken backup of that vs2003 app.
Here i am doubting that if i convert it into 2005,can i open that backup application again in 2003??
Hope u got my doubt and please respond to my question.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you should be able to do so.

as long as the backup is not converted or you do not swap solution files between backup and converted files then you should be able to open the sln in VS 2003.
BTW, most VS2003 apps get converted to 2005 without errors, so don't worry. Also, VS ask you if you want to save a backup before converting the solution, you can use that back up as well.

thanks for the reply,my doubt is clear.I shd be careful while conversion by giving correct path.

say a web application uses a dll assembly as a resource and the dll has memory leak. this shows up as memory leak in w3wp.exe right? since all resources are loaded by the application pool which comes alive as a w3wp.exe?
many thanks.

hi iam using asp.net2.0 with c#
In the gridview 1st column is checkbox,in my gridview iam using paging , iam dispalying data at page load,
when user selects the check box that records are stored in database.
but when i selects the checkbox at 1st page then it is
storing all the records but when i selects the 1st page records as well as 2nd page records
then it is storing only second page records .
iwant to store all the records what ever user has selects the checkbox.
can you give me example which helps me.

Which event you are using for saving record?If you iterate through a gridview you'll get only the rendered page rows not the entire rows as expected. otherwise you need to save the DataSource in some persisting object and need to iterate through it.
|
|
|
|
|
iam using button click event.
when users selcts the records from 1st page or from second page then what ever user has selected that should be save in database .but it is not happening.the only last page you have visited and selects the records that is stored not the previous records
how to solve this situation can you give example which helps me,

|
|
|
|
What you can do is, on the PageIndexChanging event you iterate through the grid and add all checked records to a collection, same with the second page, and when he click on submit you save the collection.
