Thanks again for your post. Looping through the xmlDocument was what I was thinking as well. Also, I did not plan to directly bind the xml data directly to the asp/rad controls but what I was going to do was as each root node menu item was selected hide/show the details panel and populate it dynamically at that time. I was hoping someone would have a few code samples.
Thanks,

There might be menu code out there. I remember in the past, people wanted to load a home page menu bar from an XML file, and I remember seeing tons of code for that out there, "ASP.NET xml menu" You can swap out the menu object for the ones you need.
My observations reflect that most people use XML linq to open a xml file to access the elements and values with ease and more performance. I took the hard road and learned XSD, and XMLTextReader, which is lighting fast, but difficult to understand at first.
I would have to see the format of your XML first, before making any recommendations. It depends on how well formed your XML is.

Read your reply and thank you very much! What I am doing is going to have a master page with a rad menu and use your AJAX tool kit to load and unload custom controls, like in your demos. I guess my biggest problem is, with only a single XMLDocument with all of the data contained, iterating through it and pulling out the top root level nodes for the menu. Then once a root level node menu item is selected getting that node's second level child node data to fill the 1st level custom control (i.e. text fields and drop down fields). Then once a second level child node's data dropdown is selected then filling the 2nd custom control with that main root's third level child node data, etc. I don't think I can bind directly anywhere as I feel that some sore of iteration methods must be used. I think the xml will be 3 - 4 levels deep and will be the only data source for my catalog application. Have you had any dealings with such a seniro and if so any good links. The links you sent me before were mostly binding to an xmldatasource, and not using xmlDocument iteration and dynamically loading controls which I must do in my case. In my case binding directly to xml is not an option unless I can pull child node sections in to an xml source that will allow for binding. Any help would be great and as always thanks for your help!

That sounds like a car part web site
1. You pick the make - FORD - XML with brands, element contains model.xml
2. You pick the model - F150 - XML with years, elements contains year.xml
3. You pick the year - 2012 - and so forth
4. You pick the engine - Triton V10
I would have several XML files for that scenario
I could not see putting that into a single xml file, but if your data is small, then yes.
Well, you have to write the XML file first. Then you have to write the code to read the file, or figure out how to bind the file.
You would have to write code to change bindings on the fly.
Your not really going to find any per-fabricated code for your needs, most of the code samples out there are for a small specific function or need that is common. Most programmers don't give up code, unless you give something back in return, or are getting paid to give away code like at Microsoft.

Hi All,
I have some required field and custom validation controls, they are firing on submit but I want those to be firing onblur events also.
Is there any way that we can display the same error messages to the users at onblur event of that particular control using the same required field or custom validation controls.
Its little urgent, please help me, I have been googling for this.
Thanks in advance.

As per my understanding, implement onblur event on javascript and then validate all required fields in that event.
Is there any issue with onblur event on js side?

My application is built using C and VB. Can i use Runtime Callable Wrappers to call that dll in asp.net?
Is it possible to call this dll in asp.net?

Yes,you can call com components developed using VB or C from .net using the wrapper.
Note: your com components should also be registered on the hosting server.

Hi,
I'm creating a secure area in an application, so a login page is needed. I've been working with the LoginView, together with the SQLMembershipProvider and created the aspnetdb database for storage of the login ID, roles etc.
My question is, is this an acceapable approch to include in a clients application? Maybe it's the lack of programming on my part that makes me ask this.
Also, is it recomended that you use the aspnetdb DB, keeping the membership in a seperate DB to all other data storage?
Thank you

Just and update - I've been working and reading up more on Forms Authentication since asking the question above.
I've came to the conclusion that using the login controls, together with the role and membership providers that are provided by ASP.NET 2.0, is a suitable approach for supplying clients a secure login area. I have however, decided to include the aspnet (membership) tables in with the applications main DB tables. This keeps the tables all in one location for each application. The aspnet login tables are easy to distinguish from the rest also, as they have the prefix "aspnet_".
I found the following source useful:

If you know of any other good sources or have a different option from that above, it would be great to hear from you

I am new to testing a 2010 web application using visual studio.net 2010. I want to test the C# web form application using IIS.
I found the following link that says what to use:
http://ukchill.com/technology/setting-up-a-web-project-environment-in-visual-studio-2010-to-allow-debugging-using-both-iis7-and-the-development-web-server/
I am still having problems.
My boss wanted me to setup my test visual studio environment that it is in production on an iis 7 server. Due to that fact,
I did the following since this occurs in production:
1. I removed the default web site and application pools in iis7.
2. I created a new application pool and website in IIS7.
3. I removed the C:\inetpub\wwwroot\directory since they were are part of the stock install.
Now when I am in the visual studio project folder and I want to specify the 'Use local IIS Web server, I get getting the message that it can not create the virtual directory.
I want to point to the physical file that looks like C:\Support, however I do not know how to translate this to a url. Thus can you tell me how to translate this to a url address?
Also what I removed caused visual studio not to recognize how to sworkup with IIS, can you tell me how to restore the values back to the way the default visual studio was setup?

I have the following question to ask about debugging a web forms 2010 app using iis while using the visual studio.net ide:
The following 2 links shows how to attach to an web forms app while visual studio is running:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=0h&oq=C%23&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4ADRA_en___US432&q=c%23.net+corner
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rickandy/archive/2011/04/22/test-you-asp-net-mvc-or-webforms-application-on-iis-7-in-30-seconds.aspx
Does that mean I would attach to an application that is already deployed to iis on my local computer? If not would that mean my visual studio is setup to use iis as the local web server? Can you explain your answer?

I want to change my visual studio.net 2010 ide that is used to debug a C# 2010 web application to use iis as the test server. I know that I would change the properties of the web application project folder. However I am not certain how to specify what the virtual directory is. This web application does not use any default web site or application pool. The physical file looks like: C:\Sup\app.
Thus can you tell me how to specify what the virtual directory would be?

A simple search in google on "vs2010 use local iis web server for debugging" gave me this link...

I have a C# 2010 web application that I made enhancements to that I need to deploy to a test iis7 server. My problem is that I do not know what the startup page for the web application is. In the visual studio.net 2010 ide, I specify what the startup project file is. However the startup object is not specified.
I am guessing the startup web page is probably in the web.config file. The section I am questioning is the following:
<pre>
<urlMappings enabled="true"> <clear />
<add url="~/Home.aspx" mappedUrl="~/PoHome.aspx" /> <add url="~/use.aspx" mappedUrl="~/Pages/Pro/ue.aspx" /> </urlMappings>
Can you tell me if the startup page is= "~/PoHome.aspx"? If this is not the startup web page, can you tell me how to tell what the startup web page is?

What page is is loaded if you run the application in VS2010? That would then be your start page?
If you want to set a specific page as the start page:
In VS2010's ide, right click on the page you want to use as the start up page and then select the option "Set as start page" from the context menu.

Hi All,
I have validation controls on my page and I am using ValidationSummary to show them. But ValidationSummary is displaying messages only when submit button is clicked.
Is there any way to show the ValidationSummary messages immediately after coming out of the control (like onblur). Is there any way to show the user that "This is required field", but the message should be displayed in the ValidationSummary not in the RequiredField validator.
Eventhough I am using RequiredField validator, but when its showing the message its spoiling the page alignments.
So I want to show it in the ValidationSummary but onblur of that particular control.
Is there any way please, anybody please help me, I am desperately need of it please, I am googling too.
Thanks in advance.

I beleive the Validation Summary fires when a post back is attempted. Here[^] is an article that might help.
To get around the page alignment issue, I put an asterisk in the RequiredField Validator text property. That way when the onblur even fires, you will have a little red star appear, which shouldn't affect your layout too much.

Hi,
I have a web page in which I kept jquery validations. I have kept all these validations in a separate function and calling that function from pageLoad, because I have update panel in the form.
There: are three .js files I am including in it, at one .js file it is saying that "run time error: jquery.validator is null"
I am not understanding why its saying like that, the paths are also correct only, because its not showing error in the script tag at src.
Any help to resolve this please, I have been googling for two days, but no much help. Any link you know or any suggestion, code snippet example anything pls its urgent. I am new to jquery world.
Thanks,
Abdul
