I want to cache sql view having more than 1 lakh records with more than 600 columns. At present i am caching the entire records in a single cache but it occupies nearly 0.5GB memory of my RAM. But the problem am facing is that i could not maintain the cache in the server for a period where i have set a absolute expiration of 10 hours, But the cache doesn't maintaini in the server for the mentioned expiration time.
I have seen one article which says the size limitation of a cache must be between 2-3GB.
Please suggest me
* What are the limitations in caching where in a huge data handling project?
*How can i play around with Caches in terms of dependencies both hardware and software?
*What are the measurement criteria that needs to be taken care in Cache sizes and expiration policies?
*On a given day we update the cache atleast thrice. so i need to recache it for certain interval of time. what are the advisables i need to take care of?
Thanks in advance

I think you may want to look at my article:
Pfz.Caching - ViewIds instead of ViewStates[^]
With it, instead of using Cache you could use Session or ViewState. It will try to use the object that is still in memory but, it that's not possible, it will reload the file (so you will probably don't get out-of-memory exceptions). Also, recently used files are "kept alive", so the information can be kept alive forever if it is used frequently.
But, I must say you should really consider changing the way you are working with your data... keeping 500mb of data in memory is too much.

Hi,
another interesting scenario: I have an aspx page which has a user control (container user control). Is there a way where we can list all the user controls as tags in the aspx page that we want to dynamically load in the container user control?
thanks

You mean you want to add User Control Dynamically based on User Selection ?

Thanks for reply..No, not the user...i want the other developers to just create an aspx page...and put some defined tags...lets say something like...
<usercontrolone>
<usercontroltwo>
<usercontroltwenty>
if they put the above tags in aspx page...and also the container user control on the same page....the container user control will retrive these tags and load appropriate user controls dynamically in the container user control..hope it makes sense
thanks

Hi-
So here's the situation:
I have two user controls (u1, u2). Both has one dropdown in them. Now, one dropdown depends on the other one. So i have created a new container user control (u3) (i need to for other reasons too). I want to load dynamically those two user controls (u1 and u2) in this new container user control (u3). Now since those two user controls (u1 and u2) depend on each other, i have created an event in u1. I want to catch that event in the container user control (u3), so i can call the appropriate method in u2. How can i catch the event in the container user control if i am dynamically loading the other two user controls??
For example, Lets say i have an event called u1Changed in u1, and if i have this in the code behind for container user control U3
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim u1 As Control = LoadControl("u1.ascx")
Controls.Add(u1)
Dim u2 As Control = LoadControl("u2.ascx")
Controls.Add(u2)
End Sub
Since u1 and u2 are dynamically loaded, how can i do the below part? Below code does not work since u1 can't be recognised
Private Sub u1Changed() Handles u1.u1Changed
u2.updateu1stuff()
End Sub
Thanks in advance

use
AddHandler u1.onchange, Addressof uichanged
if onchange is an server side event.
If its javascript onchange use :
u1.Attributes.Add("onchange", "javascript code");

Hello,
I have a master page that has list of links. The displaying of links is dependent upon a value set by a control in an associated content page that references this master page. In setting the value the list does not update accordingly (until I revisit/refresh the page). I am calling the dynamic link display in the init function of the master page. Can someone please advise? Thanks in advance to all that reply.

The process is Master page is loaded first then its content page is rendered. until the whole page is loaded, you cant call anything from content page.
I would suggest to use javascript onload event of body to do this.

I want to edit template in gridview. how can I place an icon in a template, and then how to use it.
The problem with me is that i am placing gif or png image file, which does not show any property. so how can i make my own icon from these images.

I dont get your problem. You might easily show an Image control inside EditTemplate of the gridview to show an image...

you can use an image control. lets say you are Displaying a username you can bind a Username to a Label and bind the icon to a image control. like this
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:CheckBox ID="CheckBox1" runat="server" /> <br />
<asp:Label ID="myLabel" runat="server" Text= '<%# Eval("Title")%>'/>
<asp:Image ID="myicon" runat="server" ImageUrl="~/icon.gif" />
</ItemTemplate>
hope this Helps

Hi all,
I want to create a windows component in such a way that when i use it in any windows application,in run time i want to display the properties of the component created so that if i change the value of any property it should effect the component.
How can i do it ?
i am using VS 2008.And want to implement it using c#.Is there any type of template to be used.
Thanks in advance....

Ha ha ..
Just bind your component using PropertyGrid. Its a great control for windows env, which changes properties at runtime at ease.
Just see the manual on its usage, make a class and expose all the properties through that control, so that whenever the property is changed, it should affect the visual.
But does it belongs to ASP.NET? You should have posted this in C# section rather.

Hi ,
What is the difference between website and web application ?
Thanks in advance
Azeez.
|
|

|
|
The main difference of Website and Web application is :
Websites generally deploy source codes in the server if you publish it. Thus VStudio will not compile the total code to produce dll, rather it will place the files in the server with source code. Any change can be easily made in the production server without redeploying the entire project.
Web applications on the other hand produces an assembly for all the pages and deploys it to the server.
|
|
|
|
|
There are more differences.
In one case, a friend of many was working with MasterPages and Master-MasterPages.
In Web Application, FormC can access FormB, FormA and so on easily. You can't do the same in Web Sites. Web Sites have the advantage only of being able to be loaded "partially" (as each form can be loaded independently).

I have a vb.net (WebForm) program that is for initial data entry and if the transaction needs to be corrected it doubles as Edit/Update. I have a series of DropDownLists that work perfect when in initial entry mode.
The problem comes when re-populating the transaction and appropiate dropdownlists are being populated in the code-behind.
The problem is that the dropdownlists need to be populated with all employees and then the specific employee that is to appear (normally selected, now force selected in code-behind) does not fire the SelectedIndexChanged Event a second time without a page level update.
Normally just changing the SelectedValue will cause the correct employee to appear. But, all of the elements of the dropdownlist have just been set, so the system does not recognize the new selection as one that is to be displayed.
With SelectedIndexChanged being a "Server Side" Event is there a way to force this event from the clientside in code-behind? Or maybe there is a way to reset the selectedindexchanged property to think is has not been changed yet?
If so, could you be kind enough to supply an example?
