Hi all,
I'm using the reportviewer part of visual studio to display sales data. This works fine. Now I need to change the contents of textboxes according to different languages. How can I do that through the program? creating different rdlc files for each language seems a little awkward!
for example change the contents of the reportViewer1 textbox5 to "NUMBER"

Hi guys,
I've made a proxy web app, and it's working fine. However, i'm getting some odd behaviour when occasionaly a 302 will generate two GET requests on the client side. The first GET executes fine, but the second GET completes the process and failes with a win-32 status code of 64 - "The specified network name is no longer available." which i am assuming means that the response has already been terminated.
My question is this, has anyone encountered this problem before? And if so, is there any way to detect this duplicate request and abort it? The handling for the second GET could make things quite messy.
Cheers
Tris

We developed an application in VB.NET. When we install the application on some machines, the buttons on the form disappear. The grid alignment gets messed up. We are using component one flexgrids for the grid control. Note that this problem occurs only on two machines. It works fine for the rest. I also have the system information for one of the machine on which this app is giving problems. If any one is interested to take a look, I can provide the system information too, but the info file size is huge. Has anyone encountered a similar issue?

I have a very basic remoting app, as soon as I try to call a method on a remote object, I get the following error:
"An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions"
This same code works perfectly fine on Windows XP Professional. I am running the VisualStudio instance with Vista Admin privelages, and I've even created exceptions for it in the firewall, and its still not working.
Can anyone advise on this? I have had a lot of trouble with remoting and I'm about to give up and just use raw sockets.
UPDATE:
I just tried allowing all outbound connections in the Vista firewall and the error message has changed to the following:
"No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it"
Which suggests I would need to allow all inbound.
The thing is I explicitely gave the two apps (client and server) permission to accept connections but it seems they are being ignored.

I am using the .NET binding objects for my C# application. It works fine when the database is on the same machine, however when the database is on another machine, there is a delay it startup time. It takes about 20 seconds for the app to start up. Any ideas?

Some times during the execution of C#.NET programs I encounter this error which states "Object Reference Not set to an instance of object" and then the program terminates if there is no exception handler code. I need to know, what is the meaning of this exception??

I think the error message is self explanatory. You have an object reference (a variable, if you prefer) that is set to null (not an instance of an object).
While null variables are perfectly acceptable in and of themselves, if you attempt to use them (e.g. call a method on them) it will fail.

string s = null;
string d = s.ToLower();
This will compile, but generate that error.

Set your debugger to break on the exception. It will then break on the line that causes the exception instead of the exception being caught at top level by the debugger, where it has no option but to terminate. You can do this by selecting the Debug->Exceptions menu item. You get a dialogue that says, "Break when exception is...", then expand CLR Exceptions and find System.NullReferenceException. Check the flag for Thrown. The debugger will now break when the exception is thrown, and not only when it isn't handled.

I encountered the same one when I forgot to allocate the memory to a variable.
if you are using an object from a class do not forget the new(); or gcnew(); keyword.

Hello,
I am in search of the .NET Framework 1.x and 2.0 and 3.0 class
library maps and ADO.NET class library maps to hang/pin to my cube at
work and also at home. I believe that helps understand more about the
Framework and ADO.NET objects and class libraries. Also if some thing
is presented in a pictorial (grapihical) representation I guess I can
learn more than reading whole lot of stuff.
So is there a place on the net or any company that offers this kind of
to buy or down load?
Any inputs or help me finding on this is greately appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Having problems connecting to a service which is supposed to by available. Can someone give some advice. Here is what I did:
1. Took existing "working" WSDL file from client and created .NET class using WSDL.exe
2. Within this new class
[this.Url = "http://204.131.177.150:80/soap/authRpc" ].
CTRL-Click on this link brings up XML exception below - should I expect this?
================= Exception =============================
- <soap-env:envelope xmlns:soap-env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/1999/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/1999/XMLSchema">
- <soap-env:body>
- <soap-env:fault>
<faultcode>SOAP-ENV:Server
<faultstring>[ISS.0088.9112] An Exception was thrown in the server
<faultactor>http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/actor/next/
- <detail xmlns:webm="http://www.webMethods.com/2001/10/soap/encoding">
- <webm:exception>
<webm:classname>java.lang.NullPointerException
<webm:message xml:lang="">
======================== END ==================================
3. Tried to use a function within this class but got a "The request failed with HTTP status 403: Service Error." message back from the request.
Questions:
A. Did I go through the process correctly?
B. Could this be a simple permissions thing at the server?
C. Is it an issue how the function was called? Format issues...
D. How do you resolve HTTP error?
Thanks

If this is a .net web service there should be a asmx file. So if you know what the url is it should have a file with asmx. If you put that url in the add web service it should fine it. If it does not then I would guess it is either not a .net web service or it is not running.
Hope that helps.

hi friends,
i have been developing an application in which i have to store a list of name-value pairs in a collection object.
there are many objects in collection namespace for this task.
but surprisingly, while using them, i found that every object returns a value(s) when an associated key is supplied.
but my requirement is such that i want the key as well when corresponding value is supplied.
is anyone aware of any object in collection namespace which has this ability?
please inform me if it is possible.
thanks.

Will the values be unique?

I believe what you are looking for is:
int theKey;
object theValue;
foreach (DictionaryEntry entry in myCollection)
{
theKey = Convert.ToInt32(entry.Key);
theValue = entry.Value; // This can be cast to a type of object
...
// More processing goes here
...
}
This works on Hashtable, SortedList, and those types of collections.

Hi,
if your values are unique, you can add a inverse hash table to the normal hash table,
where you add (value,key) instead of (key,value).

Hi all,
I am currently downloading the "Microsoft® Windows® Software Development Kit for Windows Vista™ and .NET Framework 3.0 Runtime Components". It's a huge 1.15GB download.
What I want to know is: can I still use Visual Studio 2005 to work with .NET 3.0 or do I have to install a special module? I have Windows XP Professional with SP2. I suppose that everything needed to work with .NET 3.0 is included somewhere in those 1.15GB
Any special stuff I need to be aware of to jump from 2.0 to 3.0?
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Talal

Talal Sultan wrote: Microsoft® Windows® Software Development Kit for Windows Vista™ and .NET Framework 3.0 Runtime Components
As the name suggests, the Windows SDK is meant for Vista. You can install .NET 3.0 on XP though. Note however that runtime components are not for development, for that you need to install additional components (like WF extensions for VS etc.).
Talal Sultan wrote: Any special stuff I need to be aware of to jump from 2.0 to 3.0?
A somewhat common misunderstanding. You don't jump from 2.0 to 3.0. The name is misleading - 3.0 is basically still 2.0, but with some enhancements (WF, WCF, WPF, Cardspace). So learning these technologies will get you teh knowledge of .NET 3.0.
|
|
|

Thanks for the clarifications. True, I have heard that 3.0 is not really a new framework but just the 2.0 plus some new things in it. As I have read, it was called WinFX but was renamed to 3.0, which, personally, I think is not a good idea
So if I got it right, these enhancements need the equivalent modules in VS 2005 so that I be able to program with them, right? You said that there are WF extensions for VS which are, of course, for the WF enhancement you mentionned later; so I am assuming that there are also WCF extensions for VS and WPF and Cardspace. Is is a right assumption?
I'll check the download I got and see if those extensions are already available in it.
Thanks again
Cheers,
Talal
