You should consider Lesotho - same sky, higher altitude, much less light pollution.

Working on a telescope on La Palma (Canary Islands) going outside during a night shift and looking up was amazing, the sky seemed almost white, and the La Palma Observatories aren't a particularly high group.

As a New Zealander, I have to say I was amazed at the sight of the sky on the Navimag ferry from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt in Chile. It was a little cold lying on our backs on the metal deck of the ship - especially the first night, the second was OK until the crew kicked us inside at 3am.
We were able to cover all the lights on the ship than shone on the deck, so had no unnatural light, no air pollution - just looking up at the milky way. Was fantastic.
Made stargazers out of people whose necks had never previously moved their gaze from their own navel.
