Yes, which is why it is almost impossible to proof read your own stuff if the spellchecker doesn't catch it.
You know what the words should be, your brain tells you they are the right shape and size, you move on.
A few years ago I walked up to a glass door, it said push on it, so I started pushing, it would not open, I pushed harder, still would not open, then I realised the word push was written on the otherside of the door, and although it looked backwards to from where I was stood my brain had 'helpfully' translated it for me.
