Possibly, but I have heard it used to mean any local in Devon and Cornwall, so I wouldn't be surprised if it applied to Somersetites too.

Had to look "janner" up as I'd never heard it before, seems that it specifically refers to folk from Plymouth but occasionally gets generalised to Devon as a whole.

Hi All,

I work for a very risk adverse company. One of their aim is every day you go home feeling the same if not better when you go home. I have identified a (in my opinion) major risk, by that some one said have a look at this. The product is now called by Test & Hardware as'Legal Case on a Tray', Production already call it 'Death in a box', I think it needs altering, Hardware is happy, the drawing office is happy, production is very happy, Inspection 'oooh you can't change that, it's worked for years, the people that use it know how to use it, so it's dangerous to change', Hmmm, If you don't pay attention when plugging it, 'KABOOM'... because it's never happened don't mean it won't, surely! Sigh | :sigh:

I have made enough noise about it so we are covered internally but...

I would suggest to let the product be inspected by a certification institution or company. If it passes, you can even place a sticker on it and use the certification for advertising.

If not (which I expect according to your post), it must be fixed. Then you will usually also get informed if the product does not conform to specific (country or region like EC) rules or laws.

If they send it out for certification and it fails, they've just increased their liability, and certainly their culpability. Once you know you have no excuse to have not known . . .

It seems they know already and don't certify for that reason. So the liability would not increase much. It is already at a high level and not fixing it can be treated as negligent.

I had a similar discussion with a railway company recently about the dangers of over-crowding. They denied that there's a problem, saying that basically that there was no issue because nothing bad had happened yet.

In other words: "everything is safe until it goes wrong." That cladding on Grenfell would be a prime example of the flaw in that approach and we all know that the Titanic was unsinkable ...

Probably not a bad idea to register your concerns in some small way, even if just in an email to your line manager. It might not prevent any calamities but it will at least show that you weren't the one with your head in the sand.

Well I have done that the Manager said take it up with... so I did, now there is one holdout against the 'Mod Strike'... so maybe my 'butt' covering exercise has done some good!
