Got my old MIG welder out, had to get new gas (and with the CO2 shortage, chuckle chuckle, that was difficult, so ended up with Argon and an new regulator) and some new tips.
Havent used it in 20 years, so stripped out the surface corroded wire, fired it up, and it still works perfectly, which is a surprise, since it has been in a damp basement all that time.
And they are a dream to use!
(Making a boat trailer to go out fishing!  )

Yes, I have this one pointer, and I'd suggest it to you as a friend: do not throw around several puns together. Otherwise we'd run out of new puns, and the thread cannot continue, and we'd have to return sooner than planned.

I have always wanted to learn MIG or TIG welding but never had the chance, time. I am pretty good at soldering, just a higher temp?

Not much to learn, you just pick it up and make perfect welds. It really is that easy!
(And nothing like soldering, no need to flux the metal or heat it before hand. You dont even need to clean it like you do with stick welding, a MIG can burn through rust (not ideal mind you).

If you want a good structural weld then don't weld through rust.
Remind me not to follow you when you are towing your trailer.

(I am more worried about the rubber sprung torsion bar suspension units, I cut them off an old gravel trailer that had been sitting in the mud for a decade. Not sure how much load they will take before they break up. )

No, not really. I got to practice welding by doing one straight line after another on a thick piece of steel. I went on until it was so hot that it glowed yellow. And then I picked it up and dropped it into a bucket of water.
I have lived with several Zen masters - all of them were cats.
His last invention was an evil Lasagna. It didn't kill anyone, and it actually tasted pretty good.

I've never tried Argon with MIG - how does it differ from CO2? I've got Argon for my TIG unit, but never thought to use the same gas for both.
