Sometimes talking to machines is the only way I get an intelligent answer.
I actually had a coworker tell me one time that he didn't worry when I talked to the computers. It's when they answered and I was the only one who understood the answer that worried him.

My daughter gave me an Alexa device a couple of years ago and I still have not turned it on or set it up.
The Cell phone company dnt me a new phone for free, as they are switching to 5G only and my 3G phone will stop working.
In my world, phones are for making and receiving phone calls only. Not texting, watching movies, ordering pizza, shopping, or reading a restaurant menu.

now on my laptop using WIFI, I can access some websites such as google.com, but I can not access microsoft.com and codeproject.com.
the good thing is that I have other computers connecting to Modem directly using ethernet cable. they are doing well.

ping codeproject.com from your bad connection then ping 76.74.234.210 I bet the second one will work. Make sure your new router has a good DNS

1.1.1.1 cloudflare
8.8.8.8 google

just restart the whole stack.... check ur laptop internet connection if set to some proxy or some dns do a trace route where do you end up...

it seems like my new installation of Modem completely breaks my LAN settings.
I have my own DNS server for LAN in my home office. now I find my desktop and my laptop are on different rings:
1)desktop IP is: 192.168.0.70
2)laptop IP is: 192.168.1.20
my laptop can not ping my desktop. it was on the same ring 192.168.1.* because I set up that way...

It looks like you have two DHCP servers in your network, which is (usually) a bad idea.
The laptop talks to the modem, and gets its IP address from there. Other hardware sees the other DHCP server, and gets its address from there.
Disable all DHCP servers but one, and things should start working. I would recommend keeping the modem's DHCP server, because all hosts can see it. Note that you may need to enter the following commands (under Windows):
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
Don't forget to configure the remaining DHCP server so that is points to the correct DNS server IP!

What is your modem's internal IP? If you only have one router, all devices on your local network have to be on the same sub-net (192.168.1.xxx).
Make sure your cable company allows you to set your own DNS server IPs. I know that with my old modem, the DNS entries were locked in and couldn't be changed. That forced me to change the DNS for every device to use my Pi-Holes (what a pain in the ass). The only way to allow me to set the DNS was to get a modem-only modem and a separate router.
You may also want to see if you have multiple DHCP servers on your network. Pi-Hole allows you to configure it to be a DHCP server. make sure that option is turned off if you're running Pi-Hole for DNS.

I have worked in Government. Private Sector Very Large Company, Private Sector semi-startup, Private sector Family Owned business and Education.
I know there are others that I am not identifying.
And yes mostly you work for your direct boss and that makes all the difference.
I prefer so far the Privately owned family. They are really good people though and not out for the money so much as putting out a good/great product.
The Education sector was my second favorite.
The worst by far was the semi startup.

I learned the same lesson as well ... I'm unemployable in the job market.
I worked for Xerox for 8 years, then realized all I was doing was extending the death of the company and fattening up their pension portfolio so everyone that I worked for can retire. I left and became self employed.

Anything private sector, then maybe education, and never government.
A major advantage of a large company is the possibility of an intra-company transfer to a job with more appeal. I was at a large company for many years and worked in five different groups at three different locations, with all relocation expenses paid for two long-distance moves.
The advantages of a smaller company are less bureaucracy (e.g., in software process) and more opportunity to make a difference (and be rewarded for it), because your role isn't as narrowly defined.

I have universally despised working for large organizations. There is always that one manager that blocks all crap and just becomes a redtape nazi. Cannot stand them.
Yes they say there are opportunities but only if you jump thru the right hoops and kiss the right butt.

A large company where one manager can impede progress and where toadyism is expected has a serious culture problem that probably starts with the CEO. That wasn't my experience, but had it been, I would have looked externally. What you're describing is far more likely in the education, or especially government, sector.

The money is better in a big company, but there's more BS to deal with. The best thing is that there will likely be a variety of things to work on over a longer period.
A small company will likely have a smaller budget. And they may have only one task to work on and then say goodbye once it's "finished".

interesting. currently company is what I would call smaller(not really) but privately held. The money is decent and the breadth of things I get to do is astounding.
