I have found that most people's preferences in this matter have less to do with the browsers themselves, and more to do with their quasi-political views vis-a-vis Microsoft...

Having said that:

When browsing? Can't say I've noticed that. But IE definitely first loads from cold MUCH faster than FF on my machine.

I prefer to use IE for browsing because it's more forgiving of )other people's!) bad code and therefore displays more sites better than any other browser. And I don't like the way FF displays (by default, ie unstyled) form fields (text boxes etc) - I just think they're ugly in comparison to IE.

For dev work, I use both, as I need to make sure my work is cross-browser compliant. I do like FF's Firebug though - that is seriously useful.
