Hi,
Iam trying to implement a cross-platform encryption system.
i.e, in windows i will encrypt a file and in Linux will try to decrypt it and viceversa. The
same encryption algorithm can be used on both platforms.
NET has Cryptography namespace in which all this algo are implemented and API's available.
But when we go in to linux , we cannot use this .NET API's. so, some libraries muist be
available to implement this algo in both platforms.
I got some info on using OPENSSL libraries which i can use for implementing encryption
algo. But some problems is ther when it comes to cross platform.
So, need some guidelines and ideas for this.
Please mail me if u had come across similar situation and help in the same.

The AES (Rijndael) algorithm has version implemented in many languages (C / C++ / vb6 / .Net / JavaScript (I'm surprised too))
You may use that algorithm to make your cross-platform Cryptography soft.
Note: Almost all (if not all) the algorithms have a ANSI C / C++ version, that means you can compile the same source in both platforms and have a "cross-platform" encryption program.
Go to The Rijndael Page[^] to check the known implementations of this algorithm.

I've been wanting to write an article on advanced .Net 2.0 data binding techniques, and my totally kick-ass "business object property attribute based application wide data validation system", but as with all writing, everything starts with the title..

Hi All... Currently i am doing my banking application using ASP.Net,C#, SQL Server2000... i want some technical solution realated securities from you guys as follow..
i already logged to my application by using username and password.. after login page my home page Home.aspx coming on screen.. i have features all like Balance Inquiry, Mini Statement, Last Transaction, Private Banking, Net Banking in my Home Page in left menu side. All Features are working very well.. For Security Reason i want some technical help from all of you guys...
Problem is After my successful login page If i not touch the Home page or if i not click on any features available in home page for 10 minutes.. Like if i click on Balance Inquiry Link after 10 minutes that time Page Login.aspx want to open instead of BalanceInquiry.aspx... After my successful login by username and password i want to open page BalanceInquiry.aspx (do not want open Home.aspx Page Again)... For that what i have to do in my Application to make more secure... if u have any articles link then please send me..
Please Please Help me if you people have some technical solution... Bcz right now i am on mid way of that project... if u have any articles or articles link please help me out....

2. Make an application on VB6/VC6 that sends Mouse Click events to the Target window
you may use SendMessage, mouse_event, keybd_event, SendInput Windows API Functions.

Well, the reason for that is when you run a windows application, it's run in the current windows user's identity. There's no need for a sign-on.

I want to know how we backup the VSS data. on a periodic fashion. and at my work place the VSS is installed on XP version. It is by default allowing 10 peopel to access at a time. But there are more than 15 in the development area. They are facing the problem. How can I resolve it.

I'm not really sure where best to ask this question (and these days if you ask a question in the wrong forum, you're asking for a good flaming).
I'm wondering if there is a control already available to create a fly-out toolbar like in VS2005 -- you know, like they do for the toolbox, properties, solution explorer, etc. I like the way it is docked to the side, and the way it autohides, but can also be pinned to stay visible. Is there already a control for that? If not, then my next question becomes if I was to try to write one myself, what do you think I should inherit from -- should I derive from a dialog, a toolstrip, a groupbox, a splitter or completely write it from scratch? Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I would like to see an article on calculating BigO, written in such away that it is easy to understand. What I am talking about is an article that takes an algorithm like "Hopcroft's minimization" and breaks it down one piece at a time. The algorithm that is broken down does not really matter as long as the break down is detailed enough that all of us can understand it. A better choice would probably be for someone to break down the different basic sorting algorithms, so that even a novice would know what a statement like O(log N) means.
I would also like to see an article on set theory, written in plain English. Recently I had to decipher several equations written using set theory notation, what a nightmare. I can explain the code that resulted just fine, but ask me to provide the solution using set theory notation and you are out of luck. It kind of reminds me of those books that claim that you can understand it if you are familiar with basic algebra and then proceeds to throw math at you that is way beyond the basics. What I am asking for is an article that breaks down the symbols (equations) used in set theory and give a detailed explanation of what they mean. For instance, if you have the article handy you will be able to take the equations written in set notation and translate them into actual working code or take working code and translate it into set notation. Reading a PHD candidates thesis is all well and good, but it would be nice if those of us without a PHD could understand what they are talking about.
The above requests are examples of one reason I am going back to school, after all these years. The second reason is that I want to teach programming and I need a master’s degree to do that. The way I see it, if you can not explain it in such away that the average intelligent person can understand it then either you are tired of the subject [take it for granted] or you do not really understand it.

Hello everyone...
Im trying to create an installation wizard for an application that i have written, I know that it could be done using the "Setup n Deployment" project in VS dot net..
All i require to do is, on click of the install wizard icon(that i create using VS DOT NET), a .reg file(that i have created using regedit)should be invoked that will create a button on the IE browser.
can i make this happen?
IS there any installation wizard creation manual/doc/tutorial available?

Well lets see I guess you already know how to add a setup project to your main Solution, right?
Next Right Click on the Setup Project and see in the context menus View.
There are several views available
File System
Registry
File Types
User Interface
Custom Actions
Launch Condidtions
Each has a page of its own in a VS Setup Project
You would add your files to the File System Section and your added Registry entries to the Registry page. A setup project actually produces an MSI and an executable that runs the msi file.
Perhap I will write an article as one of my current articles references building MSI installations but doesn't explain it in any detail.

My question is
I have to develop an application where to fill the i rectangular boxes of different sizes in similar containers where 85% volume should be utilised . procedure is
1.user should enter the values like length,breadth , height of N rectangular boxes
2.First thing is our program should select some boxes randomly and try to fit in container,. try all the possible combinations of all boxes so that maximum volume used.once best combination reached,replicate combination to other container as all containers has same size and try to fit in the container.
3.Repeat the same step for remaining boxes and try to fill all the boxes in M containers
4.Filling the boxes in container we can use any approach.
5.output should be 3D Grapical containers where position of each box is shown
for example
if 7th container has box no 23 ,29 63 ,79
output should be in 3D with exact location of each boxe in the container should be shown

i have an application setup files created by virtual cd5 on my hard disk so, to setup this application i must install the virtual cd 1st then run the setup from the virtual cd .
the problem is :
i need to burn this setup files to an autorn CDs......How!?

Unless your files will compress down to <700megs, you'll need to split them in two. Ideally you shoudl have your installer prompt for disk2 at the 50% mark.
The ugly solution would be to just split your installer into a 2part selfextractor burn both parts onto disks. Have the extractor then put the 1gig installer on the clients HD and run it from there. As a user that sort of setup would make me look into your competitors products and use your CDs as coasters if at all possible.
