This is exactly how we used to have it but then the prevailing wisdom at the time was that it meant discussions were being shown without the context of the article in question so we removed that feature.

How about just loading the forum itself in an IFRAME and refreshing that...?

I am glad to see the jobs board back and wanted to give you some feedback. First, I think $299 is too expensive for what is essentially a new, unproven service. For the next six months, I suggest you offer the first posting free. Second, for the first year of this service, I suggest $199/mo. for the first month, with subsequent months at half price.
I'm sure you're pitching the premium pool of developers here at CP, but your competition is still craigslist.

Hmm, I have to disagree. $299 is peanuts considering the cost of sourcing potential candidates, interviewing them, hiring them and then training them. I wouldn't think twice about spending that amount for a job posting here. Heck, last time I hired people I spent more than double that just to place adverts in the paper. The hook, for me, would be direct exposure to a targeted talent pool. A second hook (first posting free) doesn't do anything IMO to make the service more attractive. The big risk of offering freebies is that anyone, including joe-blow and his buddy who might want to start some development thing can use it to test the waters and waste everyones time not to mention polluting the list for serious job advertisers.
Cheers,
Drew.

Josh is back as Chief Master C#. I know Maunder is already aware of it (based on posts in SB). Just a warning to all if his account has not been disabled yet.

What's the point in banning him anyway? He'll just create new acounts on and on. Just leave him alone and eventually he'll get bored with it.

Hi Chris,
Not sure if you are still interested in adjusting the voting system to remove "spurious" votes. I had sent you a simple little algorithm that could adjust for the outliers and wonder if you received it? I think my email/post got lost in the shuffle.
If not I can always resend, or if you're not interested I'll just leave it.
Cheers.

I am interested but didn't get your email. Could you resend please?

The "email" link - it simply does not work. I've faced this issue several times.

Yes it does. If:
a) You're sending to a member who has a confirmed email address
b) there are no issues with actually getting an email past whatever filters and blocks are between us and you.
cheers,

I just clicked on the email link on my own message and sent a test email. I never received it. There are no filters to stop, I am using Yahoo mail, I checked the spam folder as well (I've given the thing enough time to reach me as well, but to no luck).
It is just not me, there are other members who have faced this issue and this has been discussed once in a while on different places of the site. I've been appreciating the good things, but I'll need to tell you the bad things as well. Trust me, the email thing doesn't work! It may work with your account, but I guess there are a few more million accounts around that you need to get it work with.

See here[^].
PS: I never receive an email if someone else sends me via this option. May be we should take a little survey on this.

Did you receive my email regarding the voting?

Are you applying 'robust statistics'?

I hope so!
It's actually not a complex algorithm, but it does seem to eliminate the influence of really crazy '1' votes while still allowing for some possibility that an extremely outlying vote could be genuine (but it does treat it suspiciously).

Can you try some little thing for me? Try sending an email to yourself (using the email link) and tell me the results?

Done pal. I haven't yet received it (twenty minutes elapsed).
If eventually I'll receive it. I'll make you know.

Since you are now in a feature-enrichment mode, I just wanted to ask about one of my favorite (missing) features. Can you give us a rough estimate? How about an Under-the-Covers peek at how it will work?
|
|
|
|
|
Better still: why don't you tell me how you would like it to work. We're working on something similar (but not actually nippets - snippets will come easily once we have this next feature done) so now's a good time to tell me whet you want r don't want.
cheers,
Chris Maunder
