So if I make it an int for example do I have to overide any hashing functions? In my ap the key would be a uint32 and the value an int.

No, you don't have to. You could also consider using a generic dictionary instead of HashTable.

Hi,
the PerformanceCounter class wraps Windows performance counters, which can provide that kind of information.
BTW: most often you need to call a counter twice, once to get it started, once again to read its value after some time has elapsed.

I imagine that if all counters where running (at least at this level) your computer will be counting performance instead of doing what it is suppose to do

I had made an application using Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition such that I had obtained obtained a "dll".
If I register the dll using Visual Studio 2008 Command Prompt, it works perfectly, but, If I register using windows command prompt, the dll gets registered, but that effects had not been made. are there any issues in registering the Express Edition's DLL through normal command prompt.
If there are any, let me know?
I want this to be made because my application should work perfectly eventhough if .Net framework is not present also.

As windows command prompt does not execute "regasm" commmand, I was Intially including "Regasm.exe" in the environment variable's path variable, such that my dll gets registered through the instruction regasm /codebase "Mydll.dll" through windows command prompt.
It gets successfully registered, but it doesn't show any effect what it is really meant for?
How can I achieve this

Hi,
in order to run a .NET application the right .NET version must have been installed; Microsoft makes all .NET Redistributables available for free (and Vista has them installed already).
There is no easy and free way to run a .NET app without .NET itself being present; copying and registering some DLL files will not solve that.
FWIW: you don't need Visual Studio to run a .NET app

Hi All
I am developing a windows based application using C# Language in which security is very important.
I have used restricted access modifiers such as private,sealed,protected internal etc etc.
And also denied permissions to my application at assembly level(in AssemblyInfo.cs)
such as for File input output
[assembly:FileIOPermission(SecurityAction.RequestRefuse,Unrestricted=false)]
and for everything which was not needed in my application for eg registry,IsolatedStorage etc etc.
I have also strong named my assembly.
I came to know from somebody on the internet that still my code is accessible to other application
and any application by using System.Reflection can execute the code of my application.
Is it true?
If yes What should I do to prevent it.?
And please tell other things also which I can do to increase security of my application.
Please guide.

What you want is something called an "obfuscator". Do NOT use the obfuscation crap that came with VS2008 (because it won't do what you need it to do). Buy a 3rd party tool. Get one that encrypts the strings and creates a native binary out of your assemblies. The problem is that he can look at your code with Defender and figure out what your assemblies are doing, and can therefore use your DLLs in his own code.
Now that you know how to fix your assemblies, you have to figure out a way to remove the "open" versions from the user's computer. Good luck with that (because now that they're out there, you're hosed).

You would need some sort of license scheme so the methods can validate that they were called by an allowable application. It would slow your application down, and probably isn't worth the trouble.

There is a problem using obfuscation and UI since one can iterate through all types and create instances of forms and controls. You can solve this by having all forms and controls inherit your own type (that inherits from UserControl or Form) and that type requires that some static flag was raised in the application or else...
This way radomly generating types will just raise exceptions. Adding this just adds another small barrier for people trying to look at your code and does not solve the problem.

Hello
I'm trying to merge a main menu strip and a childs menu strip but I can't get the expected result
1- I have a Main form mdiMain and a child fomr mdiChild
2- mdiMain contains mnuMain, mdiChild contains mnuChild
3- Both mnu have a File item : New; Open; and exit for main,, Save, Save As, Import for child
4- both mnu have allowmerge to true
5- I set the merge option of the Main file item to insert
6- I also set the merge option of the Child file item to insert
7 So I expect a result like
New
Open
Exit
Save
Save as
Import
BUT
I only get the Main File Menu
New
Open
Exit
Do someone knws how to do it

Does it help if you alter the MergeOption to Append? Or could it be that the constructor isn't creating the mnuChild-component?

No, it does not change anything
BUT I have the solution
It is necesary to set the head item (File in this case) to MatchOnly
Then set each items in the child menu to the needed value (Insert, append...)
A little bit tedious is the need to set the Exit item in the Main menu at the end
To do that it is necessary to sell all items in the child menu to Insert with the proper index

Hey All!
I've been readin' up on Regular Expressions alot lately because I need to Extract words inbetween HTML tags for example I need to extract the words 'extract this!':
<title>Extract this!</title>
and also:
<a href="http://www.ilikethissite.com/">Extract this URL</a>
I have followed many examples and read MSDN and I just can't get it to work. Can anyone please shed some light on this matter? Thanks in advance

Use regex grouping to match the bits you want to keep and build a new string, or to match the bits you want to remove, and then remove them.

What you want is an HTML parser (google is your friend). Don't mess around with regex because you'll spend a lot of time trying to figure it out. Believe me - downloading a parser will be much faster.
