Yep, that's a proa.
They sail backwards and forwards.
eg there is no rear or stern on the boat.

Its very difficult to find resources on the www about paranormal activity on PC's.
If you have any information in regards to this I would be very interested to hear about it.
So please drop a line below.
Only serious posts please.

My computer will sometimes turn itself on in the middle of the night. Scares the hell out of me.
Is that paranormal enough?

Ok, I need to know a little more,
to see if there exists another explanation.
Do you have any large pets in the house ?
Are you sure it's turning itself on, not just waking up from a sleep mode ?
I'd really like to follow this up.

No large animals in the house (unless you count my housemate) but I leave the door closed at night, and I think I'd notice it being opened.
The computer is left in Hibernate mode usually, so it's properly turned off (moving the mouse or touching the keyboard won't make it power back up, just pressing the power button)
Oh yeah, and I live opposite a graveyard, if that has any significance

That is possibly a factor !!
There are two basic methods we can run here,
One is to exorcise the spirit (remove it)
The other is to observe and document it.
There is very little literature on PC exorcisms still, however the procedure is relativly easy to perform for a novice.
Observing it requires setting up recording devices and detectors to learn the beings traits.
Which way would you prefer to go ?

Yes, I had a similar problem... see my post below.. .but I could not determine whether the computer itself was posessed, its network card, or the network itself. Can computer peripherals be posessed, or just the whole computer?

I'm no expert in this field. Just a curious observer, however I assume that anything could be possessed.

I did have a computer that would occasionally just turn itself on. It may have been related, somehow, to the network it was on - I noticed it didn't happen when I unplugged the cord. But I can't recall having set the special setting that allows it to start up given a certain network signal, and I *know* I never sent it any network signals saying, "Turn yourself on!"
It would happen only once every now and then. Very disturbing.

This sounds like a classic case to me.
It's a pity you don't have the box still,
I'd hate to think you have sent some growth to a trash heap.
It could also be possible the desk that the Box was on was haunted, or something else in the room.

Actually, the box was a corporate computer that I had borrowed from an old employer to do some contracting work after I left the area. I eventually returned it. It then went to the Great Formatter, who seems to be able to cast out most gremlins.
But if it were the network card that was possessed, then the Great Formatter may not have been able to get at it. Scary...

People have had wierd experiences having their computers turn on themselves. I have had the opposite kind of experience.
I once had a computer that used to turn itself off on its own. Pretty scary if you ask me. There you are, working on something, and lo, the computer turns itself off. Sometimes though, and only sometimes, it also used to turn itself back on. When it just turned itself off, it used to turn blue, as if poisoned to death or something. I used to call this symptom the "Blue Of Death" or BOD.
I gave the PC away to an exorcist, and got myself a new one. The exorcist used to call BOD BSOD, but assured me that the "S" was silent, and stood for a meaningless term anyway, so I could continue calling it BOD if I wanted.
My new PC has not been possessed till now, as far as I can tell.

Rohit Sinha

Hey!!! I had a computer that did that, up and decide to turn off at random. Darn thing didn't even offer me the chance to save what was open. It was an HP XE783 machine. Me and HP went at it a while before they decided to send me a new one. Are you ready for this... it did the same darn thing. Turns out it was the OS overwritting its own RAM. Go figure- it was a machine running on Windows ME. I had purchases four of these computers and was rather upset at over the problem but after lengthy talks with HP they finally agreed to replace the OS for me at thier expense. I won't even go into my complaints with Windows 2k Pro, but at least it was more stable than ME.

In that case, the computer was not possessed, it was just a victim of Bad Operating System Syndrome.

Have you seen this alien: ? He moved into my links bar a while ago, and refuses to move out. At first I was concerned, who was this little guy, what if he took over my life. However, the only noticeable changes have been that my coding has improved, and I seem to spend a lot more time in the Lounge / Soapbox.
Does this fit in with your studies? If so, you may also be interested in this little guy: . He has much less interest in coding standards than the first one I introduced you to, but is a happy little chap, so I allow him to dance in my messages sometimes.
I've always heard that there was an idea behind Win ME... I still can't figure out what that was... anyboy know??? I;ve herad the idea was that it was supposed to be n operating system but I doubt this. - Brian Delahunty
