is there any method to use the vb.net variable that contains the date format on page load
as
ctrl_date = Session(lcl_date)

to use in palce of .ToString("dd-MMM-yyyy")
how to use ctrl_date in place of "dd-MMM-yyyy"

Yes,
but in your asp.net code this is the static format for giving date format.... i do not want to use this because my web site user has diff date formate and it is fetched during the time of login ...suppose user1 has MMM-dd-yyyy and user2 has dd-MM-yy then what can i do for this......
with my code it is working fine just facing problem in alternate rows......

Sir, I cannot add static date format
in my web site i have created a control pannel from which user can select the date format according their choice... thats why i am trying to apply that format with the help of gridview1_Rowdatabound

but i can check your vb.net solution after updating my code with your code then inform you
