You need to install MS Office, or use an alternative, for instance see how to read Excel file in C#.

You can find few IMAP projects here on CodeProject (for instance see), or if you want to use more rounded solution (but not open source) then check out this IMAP client for C#.

To add another alternative for consideration:
- Use C# / VB.NET library for PowerPoint, with it you can use your existing presentation files and for instance convert them into an image which you could use as background.
