Have you tested it locally ? This error means that your web.config contains invalid XML.

I'd try what the other guy suggested, looks like he found more precise info, but the microsoft article I read just said that your XML is malformed, so, if you changed a connection string in your web.config, I'd say you lost the / in the XML node or similar.

Your connection string looks like valid XML. Open your web.config in IE and see if it opens, if not, then it's not valid XML and you need to find the broken tag

Solution 4

I too had the similar issue and i fixed it by commenting some sections in web.config file.

The project was earlier built and deployed in .Net 2.0. After migrating to .Net 3.5, it started throwing the exception.

*Resolutions:*

If your configuration file contains "<*sectionGroup name="system.web.extensions*>", comment it and run as this section is already available under Machine.config.

Also make sure that you are using asp.net 4.0 classic application pool.

Hi,

It looks like you don't have compilation section defined.
Check yours machine.config. Under configSections element you must have definition for compilation section group.
It should be something like this under section group named "system.web":

You can try add this to your web config and then try again, or simply remove problematic compilation element from web.config and try to load page again...

got it sir I have two web.config cause on my ftp my root has an web.config but I add another web config so im getting this error. My error now is I cant modify the main web.config error 505 but I guess that is another question

Solution 3

You need to use the DefaultAppPool Integrated 2.0 for this site. It will work.

Check if somee provides you the option to set the AppPool
