User control inside update pannel not working

Hello ,
Let me explain my situation.
I have a user Control which is inside a update panel to restrict post back.

User control contail userName text box, now problem is when i put user control inside update panel
text box validation which is a java script alert is not workng .

Can any one tell me what i have to add/modify?
