Hi there
I am wondering how codeproject searches articles? Does it use a crawler / indexing mechanism?
|
|
|
|
|
We are using Lucene.NET as our Search Index. I wrote a custom crawler which keeps the index current with a max delay of 10 minutes. I also had to write a custom Analyzer as a lot of technical and/or programming terms were being stripped out by the standard analyzers.

I believe this needs to be a bit more specific: a suggestion:

I updated my article from WinRT section today and haven't found WinRT section in the list of available sections. Had to select Windows 8 design instead, as if section is not selected, you can't press 'Publish'. I asked to place my article into correct section in notes to editor, hope that she has more power to find it.
But how did you lose it, it was there?

Look for "Windows Runtime". I've moved your article.

someone marked this issues as fixed, but it's not. I.e. my article is in the correct section, thanks, but still there is no 'Windows Runtime' section in the article submission wizard. Just open wizard and try to select this section for submission. Did I miss something?

Hi Irina,
Please let me know if you can see the dropdown shown here: Code Project Article FAQ[^]

yes, drop-down is there as on screenshot. But in the article submission wizard you see "Social Network APIs" and then "General Programming", no "Windows Runtime" between them. And I searched all drop-down, WinRT is absent at all

... for posts in the non-technical forums ? I don't see why point are awarded, and the balance between a good Lounge pun up-voted by several platinum members, and for instance the points awarded for posting an article is not fair. By far.
Upvoting in the non-tech forum should be possible to "green" some good threads, but there should not be any point awarded for that. Actually, the "Debator" part of the reputation is quite questionable. One fine example is ... me : I should not have more than the 4k of my authority as a total (plus a small amount for logging in almost every day for more than ten years), the other 60k has been "earned" only by having fun in the Lounge.
The same apply for a lot of members of the Top 20 "reputationers" (Dave, Nagy, Henry, ...), and as a much as I appreciate them all, I don't see how they can compete with Christian, Sacha, Pete, Nish, Griff and many other "question-answerers" and "article authors".
Note: With non-technical, I only mean the Lounge and the Soapbox.

I've thought this many a time but never got round to writing it here. I think the idea is that there is a lot of traffic in the Lounge so ideally they want to keep it that way so reward people for posting, and a lot of people will get to know the site throught the lounge and then go on to contribute in more preferable ways.
I think you are right though the rewards are probably on the more generous side, I've posted remarks that have got 25+ upvotes before giving me nearly 500 points.

Although I agree with the points (pun intended ) you are making, I don't think it is a big deal. If you look at the Privileges tab on your Profile page, Debator points don't really give you a whole lot apart from adding to the combined reputation points.
Just my 2 cents.
