Dear Colleagues,
I've got a question for you: Is it really allowed to develop and use various online applications run on the client PC that perform real-time scheduled downloads of the content from http://www.codeproject.com/ web site with an http-client. For example, an application that uses timer to launch the process of the CodeProject's main page contents downloading every 60 seconds. This is basically similar to using a so-called CodeProject's API tools to build an application that perform the data analysis obtained from the CP's web-site.
Particularly, I'd like to find out if the following will actually mean that by using such application I'm purposely flooding the CP's web site, creating burden traffic to the CP's web servers ???
Anyway, if using such real-time web-client applications is unwanted or not permitted, just let me know and I will simply not create and use it.
You know, at this time, I'm working on the windows 7 gadget will perform the notification of the featured and latest articles announced on the CP's main page. Actually, the following gadget will performs xml-http Ajax requests timely within each 60 seconds to download the CP's main page and retrieve the data on the CP's featured articles currently shown to its readers.
Also, soon, I'm going to write an article in which I will discuss about the gadget's implementation and upload the specific code to the article's web page.

Using the API is far more preferable since we change the homepage occasionally and we'll break your app. An alternative is to use the CodeProject Latest Articles RSS feed[^]

Can we please have an MS Office VBA forum?
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
Everything makes sense in someone's mind.
Ya can't fix stupid.

What's wrong with QA? It's where most such questions go.

testrex - Professional Profile[^]
Reputation-Bug.png (12.1 KB)[^]
The biography shows, "This member doesn't quite have enough reputation to be able to display their biography and homepage", and yet the home page, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn links are all showing.

Just a suggestion, the minimum amount of points may be hard to define since different choices give different amounts of points when creating the account. For example if you subscribe newsletters, fill in the profile you get certain amount of points and so on.
One obvious solution would be to ignore these points. The minimum amount would be defined only based on points from "real actions" like posting a message, signing in etc.
Another possibility could be that profile items would be usable only after successfully posting an item. If a message passes through filters and moderation, then one would be allowed to have profile description. If the message would be deleted later, for example by protectors, then the account would be back in starting point.
...Well, actually if the protectors delete the message I believe that the offending account would be sent to oblivion in a flash

The different rep types would take this into account. Signing up for the newsletters gives you participation points, but if we predicated it on Author, Editor or Expert points then we'd be filtering out the auto-points automatically. So to speak.

Were you asked to fill out the Email Consent Form[^] last week?
It was only supposed to apply to Canadian members, but a few of us non-Canadians were asked to complete it as well.

I tried to download a demo file and AVG is saying it contains a virus. I can show you screen shot.

It's probably a false-positive, but you might want to check it with something like VirusTotal[^] first.
A link to the article will probably be more helpful to the site admins than a screenshot.

The new icons look grotesque. As the creator of CP's joke icon, I guess it's only a matter of time before my handiwork (along with that of others) will be replaced by ugly new icons. I will now stand in a corner and bawl like a spoiled child.

Look just the same as the 'old' ones to me.

They're vastly different, especially the question, bug and answer ones.

Nope, still exactly the same: Chrome on Windows and Safari on iPad. What are you using?

Chrome on Windows. They just reverted to the old ones for me.
