It always weirds me out having people know when I'm online or offline, so no, I'm not a huge fan of that feature.

Hi,
Could we start a forum called 'Classic XP Developer Page' (or something like that) We write cash register software (no internet connnections) that works perfect under XP. Absolutely no need to improve the underlying OS. )Also, No intention to upgrade.(do not fix what is not broken) Our compiler tools and MFC Library (in my case VC5.00 + MFC42 is also quite sufficient for our purpose.), We have recovered more XP Hardware here in the dump, than what we will ever need need, we have now in excess of 1500 dumped licenced XP Disks.(which we will never sell).
There must be a significant number of people in the world, facing this situation.
There will ultimately be a legal issue, as follows:- Can I buy a 'Current Computer' Complete with say Windows 7, 8, or 9. All Licicenses paid for. Now, I wipe the Disk, and install XP!
Because Microsoft has stopped issuing licenses I cnnot get a validation for the software from the Microsoft site, Neither me, nor mij customer will ever bother Microsoft with support calls.
At this stage, having paid for mij win7 or 8 license, and downgraded to XP, I have no other option than to use 'clobbering' software, to make the OS work. The IsGenuine issue will never come to pass, simply because the computers are not, and will never be, connected to the internet.
The first question would be: Is this Legal. (in my opinion : Yes. Microsoft is here not at any financial loss, I paid for Windows 7 (Or whatever, and elected to run an inferior product instead, with me indemnifying Microsoft from the consequenses thereof.)
Soilicitors in various jurisdictions may have different opinions thereof.
And that is only One subject!
Regards,
Bram
a 'Classic XP' Developer page would be a start.

Bram

Switch to Linux!
The difficult we do right away...
...the impossible takes slightly longer.

why impossible.
VC 5.00 is running here and now on about 15 Win95/Win98/XP computers. These computers are on Local networks,(i.e. Ignorant of the Internet) Works exceptionally well, we are making money. There may be more organisations doing this around the world. Teaming up would be great, and the CP would be the obvious vehicle for this.

Hi
Chris Maunder wrote: You mean jsut a forum for XP devs? Or a special section, complete with retro XP jelly-bean style graphics?
Well, just XP would do for me. If others want to have jelly-bean style graphics, don't see why not. There's still an awful lot of XP about, and not all software or hardware for that matter is readily Adaptable to windows 7 or 8. In our case, windows 7 offers not a single advantage over XP, and very many disadvantages! Hence, we have no intention in our niche market to change for the next 10 years. World wide there may be more of these niche markets.
A forum for these type of users could be very useful.
Kind regards

I assume that this message was related to the WCF reply I posted yesterday and has nothing to do with the thread it appears to be associated with. You might want to remove the dangling message.

You should disable hiding of known file extensions in the Windows explorer:
- Select Start | Settings | Control Panels | Folder Options
- Select the view tab
- Uncheck “hide file extensions for known file types”
Then the full file name is shown.

Thanks alot... It solved my problem.. Now image uploaded successfully..
But I think CP Team should remove the JPEG from the restricted file formats as well..

My profile picture is also in a .jpg type and it worked, too. How about the size of your picture?

StackOverflow rolled out recently Portuguese versions of its question asking/answering platform: http://pt.stackoverflow.com/ and http://br.stackoverflow.com/.
I know several Spanish developers that are willing to push for a Spanish version of StackOverflow.
Are localized versions of CodeProject in the horizon? CodeProject is one of the oldest article platforms in the web but all the articles are in English.
Although you might think one won't get by as a developer if she/he can't read/write n English, most users feel more comfortable consuming content in their own language.

This has been already spoken some times and, as fas as I know, it has always been rejected.
If CP starts supporting a language, then all user of other languages will start complaining about.
On the other hand... CP already has a massive number of spammers, if the spam links were hidden in articles of other languages, the number of potential reporters would decrease a lot, because they can not understand the content to know if it is spam or not.
I come from spain and my english is not the best, but although it would be more confortable for me to read in spanish, I think it is a bad idea and my vote is against it.

Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you
