I'd say that some people have trouble differentiating between somebody who posted spam and somebody who is a spammer.
In the case of this message, it basically said "get started" (with what?). Easy enough to see that specific message as spam (without looking at the name of the person who posted it).

I doubt he'd have been downvoted had he posted something substantive.

Yes, I agree, but I was thinking of the reverse. If you are posting something that resembles spam, it just makes it worse to have a name like he had. So had his name been something regular and normal here like say Jack Black, some may still have voted him down but not as many this guy got.

I vote him down too do you think the same reason?

Hello,
I have observed several cases where users editing answers by simply changing variable names and aligning the code. i think users are doing this purposefully to increasing there points.
Thanks!!!

Oh the irony. Posting in pre tags in the area where we can't edit to improve. Why does it matter to you what motivation they have for editing?

Editing required whenever some mistakes need to be corrected, but intentionally changing the scope of the answer is not acceptable.

Can you be specific so we can decide for ourself?

"Improve question" and "Improve solution" should be enabled only for the owners not for other users. If they have any comments on the question or answers they can use the "Have a question or Comment" button to question it.
Normally i observed some situations where others modify questions and solutions just to improve their points even though the answer and questions are correct. This is just a concern to notice the admin. If it is not valid just ignore it.

This defeats the purpose of the system. It's there to allow other members to correct the copious spelling, grammar and general composition errors that many, many members make when posting questions and answers.

Sri Vinod,
Please read the "Member Reputation System" FAQ[^].
You will see that there are minimum reputation points required to perform editing on Articles, QA Answers, etc.
And, certain categories of responses allow the OP to limit who can edit their response.
Your assumption anyone can edit here is incorrect. I believe that anyone who takes the trouble to even re-format code, so it's more readable, is helping the quality of CodeProject content.
Further, someone who believes their content/response has been edited in such a way that it has been de-valued, or whatever, can complain here (make sure you keep a copy of your original content/response on hand, so you can point out what you think has been messed-up).
Now, whether an 'Edit deserves a 5 point rep increase; or, whether more than Bronze level rep should be required to edit in certain categories: those are other issues.
best, Bill

I have thought the same thing, on occasion and I feel their is some truth tho what you have pointed out. However, you can't set crazy limits as to what gets edited and what doesn't in relation to points.
Just go with the flow and don't make a big deal of it. The real purpose of this site is not about points or how you get them.

Well said. I'm surprised how long it took me to realise that - of course, I am a little bit dense.

I thought the whole idea of the site was to collect points?

It would seem that way, sometimes.

Yeah, but points and the rep system are a very important aspect of this site.

Very true. Very sad. It should not be.
I think most of us agree with this to an extent.

Well, I don't see why not. Chris uses it to allot moderator privileges and editing rights to high-rep members. It'll just make it way harder for him if we did not have a scoring system at all.

I'm not against a system that allows certain individuals to moderate/edit/delete.

If you take a look at the colors in the code below (not mine[^]) you see that it dosent pick up all the " signs. If you paste this code in C# in Visual Studio it does not complain about anything.
protected void Btn_Add_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!Directory.Exists(Server.MapPath("~") + "\\Emp\\"))
{
Directory.CreateDirectory(Server.MapPath("~") + "\\Emp\\");
}
string imagepath = Server.MapPath("~") + "\\Emp\\" + TxtName.Text +".jpg";
string image_path = "\\Emp\\" + TxtName.Text + ".jpg";
AsyncFileUpload1.SaveAs(imagepath);
cs.Name = TxtName.Text;
cs.Image = "~/" + image_path;
cs.Add();
}
Is it fixable or?
