Row_Updating event for Gridview in asp.net

I want to update data in gridview in the Row_UPdating event... for that i have done connection at runtime in griview ....... then I done my connection string and update command at runtime......now in the row updating event i want to get the old values of the row from the database..if i click the edit button then it's automatically get's uppdated in the database...help me please how to do this ...i tried of many times but my values did't get updated in my database.....and remember one thing in my gridview i have added the edit,update,cancel button from commandfield in editcolumns from the smart tag....THANK YOU......
