Microsoft Silverlight is a free web-browser plug-in that enables interactive media experiences, rich business applications and immersive mobile apps.

HTML5 will be the new standard for HTML, XHTML, and the HTML DOM. HTML5 is still a work in progress. However, most modern browsers have some HTML5 support.

Which is better?
In my opinion, the answer is, "It depends." It is all about competing with Apple and the new revenue models.
