Side by side comparison of 2 identical hardware with Android and Windows Phone
http://www.engadget.com/2014/08/27/htc-one-m8-windows-review/[^]
They say the Windows Phone does perform marginally slower in some cases. Isn't Windows Phone allegedly in C++ and Android in Java? How come? Listening to MSDN one will believe Microsoft is obsessed with performance? How come it does so bad!
Maybe C++ isn't that good? C# isn't that fast? Java isn't that bad?!
(though I kind of try to forget my long past life as a Java developer, so maybe .. I should leave it at that...)

I also wanted to add this, but took me time to find: http://www.infoq.com/news/2014/07/ahead-of-time-compiler-os[^]...

I think I found in the article the thing you're referring to:
engadget.com wrote: Games run smoothly with few to no frame skips, but the same titles on Android were consistently more fluid.
Or you know, it could be due to the implementation of the actual games. The other things does not make sense, like this one:
engadget.com wrote: Android version is a little faster when loading apps and multitasking, primarily due to the time-wasting animations scattered throughout the Windows Phone OS

Yes you found them! Now what?!
Ok, it does say it's kind of minimal. But they make a list of little things which adds up!
While they might be biased against Windows Phone, I would have expected these particular little things to be good and in favor of Windows Phone! Turns out I was wrong!

You may have missed one important fact - well written code executes faster irrespective of the language.
Some good tight Java will outperform floppy C++. Also remember that Java uses compile ahead, so once the class and method is loaded it is compiled, so the real performance hit is skewed towards start-up and goes down during run-time.

Rocket surgery it ain't.
If you run any OS on hardware that was designed for another OS, the device's performance will be worse than with the OS it was designed for.

Ok, that's seriously cool.
Is that your job or hobby?
If it's your job, I'm a bit envious.
If it's you hobby I'm a bit impressed. (And assuming you're single, or having a spouse with a different level of acceptance than mine )

Job. This thing is under maintenance now .
Currently I'm working on surface calculation of sunspots based on drawings that are scanned in and if all goes well I will also be participating in a project concerning a satellite instrument they will shoot in the sky mid 2017 .
It's not all sunshine of course, but all in all it's a fun job.

Hmm 'knobshine', I've not heard that one, but I have now thanks to the comments by some of those MENSA members!

This is the way to do the ice bucket challenge -
0. Fill a third of an ice bucket with ice.
1. Add water to the level of the ice.
2. Place a chilled bottle of fizz in the bucket.
3. Drink the wine.
I'm quite happy with the level of charitable support I make, I don't need freezing water to remind there are people worse off than me.
