Put's me in mind of Rimmer's revision timetable.

OriginalGriff wrote: spend more time trying to decide "which is quicker"
Oh, you mean like the whole year I took trying to decide between two techniques for a game I wrote? Eventually I chose the easy way.
Or how about another application I started back in 2009. Creating the database and DAL took about a week. Getting most of the core features working took only a couple of months. Then I needed to decide between two other (vital) features. In the last five years all I've done on it was to replace the DAL so it can work with either SQL Server or SQL Server CE at the user's discretion. I still haven't decide what to do about those other features, and the app is useless without at least one of them.
I guess I know how I'll spend tomorrow...

I was using CamStudio; great stuff.
Hard Drive crashed, had to reinstall.
Bad stuff now.
Install program puts malware on your machine.
Best I can tell, I got it from here: http://www.camstudio.org[^]
Does anyone know where I can get the real CamStudio from the real source ?
I search, and I see SourceForge and CNET and several sites with names that scare me after my most recent attempt to download (what I thought was) a legitimate copy.
Can anybody vouch for a site that has the real one ?
The accurate working URL would be a real favor.

What's wrong with the green download button here[^]?

It seems to me, that those last two comments are related to the site you saw...
I downloaded the exe and installed (also checked with antivirus) and got nothing...

You actually downloaded and installed it just to check if it actually contains any malware?!
Your time will come, if you let it be right.

Yes. I'm working in a VMs...so in worst case I can re-create the VM...

I can't find any problems with the official download, but if it still worries you, I've got an older version archived.

Okay, we have two witnesses here that the site in question has a clean copy ?
I had a disk crash and reinstalled a bunch of apps; I think every one of them was done by Ninite.
When I put CamStudio on, then the dance of the annoyance-ware started. Every page I opened in my browser popped up warnings about detected malware. (New hard drive; freshly installed apps; Ninite; uh-huh)
I did a restore back to before the Ninite install, reinstalled a bunch of apps all en-masse, and the behavior disappeared.
I'll wait another day and see if anyone else says the copy from his site is okay or malware.
Thanks to both of you for testing it (!) I didn't expect that.
Assuming you two are correct, then I will forever wonder how the malware writer tricked me on that one.

Update on CamStudio
Just went back to the original site, downloaded the file.
Old (evil, wicked) install was already on hard drive.
When I put the downloaded zip file in my installs directory, there was a file conflict.
Same name, different file. Both are showing up with Malware from various virus scanners.
I will search for an alternative, and start another thread later.
This is quite discouraging, and impedes my plans by a major factor.

Hi chaps -
writing comp, the topic is "Chris Maunder and the Mystery of Fig Tree Pocket" - the prize is entertainment and the adoration and adulation of your peers.
Make it say - 3 paragraphs max.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, but a place name like "Fig Tree Pocket" cannot go unused...
There once was a girl with a locket
Who stuck it into a mains socket
But CP's own Chris
He knew what was amiss
She's a nut who comes from Fig Tree Pocket
Don't expect me to make a habit of this.

"Damn Kid, get your arse out of here and don't-cha come back ya' hear"
Maunder skittered out of the yard tearing away from Mr Wright's house in Fig Tree Pocket - or as the local kids called him - Mad Old Wogger. Luckily Chris still had his screwdriver set and electronics gear in hand - he'd dropped a resistor or three - but he could pick those up from the shop anytime. Luckily Old Wogger didn't have his legendary shotgun handy or Chris was sure a round or two of rocksalt and beans would be flying in the general direction of his fast moving posterior. He rounded the corner, stopped and caught his breath while leaning on a Jacaranda tree.
Old Wogger's house was rumored to be be the testing lab for a new type of server - Mad Old Wogger, the story went, had been working on new ways of generating power for it from pure alcohol without burning it. No one was sure where the rumours started, Chris had initially thought that Dalek Dave had concocted it for a laugh, however the stacks of whiskey bottles and spare electrical equipment in the bins behind the house seemed to confirm the theory. It was also true that most the kids of the neighborhood had been trying for weeks to figure out exactly what was going on in Old Wogger's basement and Chris had been trying to set up a monitoring system with a new fibre optic camera threaded through the basement window
"Sh*t" thought Chris- "I left my iBook behind."
From a distance he heard whooping and then maniacal laughter.
*boom* went the shotgun.

A man called Chris Maunders, once encountered a mysterious fig tree pocket. He thought that was ridiculous and went ahead to make a web site instead that will arguably become the best online resource for certain technologies and programming languages.

Chris Maunder wondered where a Fig Tree kept its wallet and keys...
The answer? In the Fig Tree Pocket!!
Mystery solved.

The warm rain was making temporary craters in the red mud as I trudged to where the yellow flowers, their petals waving angrily at the storm, were surrounded by the stark contrast of the blue and white Police Incident tape, the ends of which flapped maniacally in warning.
"Daffodils?" I said to the young constable, visibly shivering in the moonlight.
"Sir, yes sir!" He'd been watching too many American army movies. I played along.
"At ease, soldier"
I surveyed the scene. It was obvious someone had taken care with this site - the third we'd found. I knew we'd find no evidence - no prints, nothing. This guy was meticulous. Just a circular copse of flowers, neatly planted and mulched. It was the mulch that was the problem.
Red and glutinous, with hair mixed in with starkly white pieces of bone.
"Anything new?" I asked the young copper - expecting a sad shake of the head. I did a double-take that Dean Martin would have been proud of, as the constable replied "Just this, Sir. Looks like he dropped it when he was disturbed."
I looked to where his hand pointed; rainwater pouring off the end of his finger toward the chain.
A clue at last!
The chain was heavy, looked new. About four feet long. And covered in a macabre mess of matted fur and gut.
"Looks like he killed 'em here, then spread 'em" I mumbled to myself.
"Sir?" asked the still shaking copper "Can I ask you something?"
"Go ahead, son"
"Well, Sir, why Daffodils? I mean, don't you usually get Tulips from hamster jam?"
Time seemed to freeze. Two and two suddenly stated to add up to four again.
In this stormy copse in Fig Tree Pocket I'd finally solved the case; now I just needed to prove it.
It's too dangerous for me to reveal the culprit in writing - but I'll leave a clue...
