Did CPDN go multi-threaded at some point, (but without the ability to change its threadcount on the fly)? (Years ago when dual core was shiney and new I was told CPDN would probably never go multi-threaded because their was too much cruft in the ancient codebase that would need to be changed to make it possible.)

With standard one thread/task applications throttling down with a time variable number of usable cores works reasonably well for adjusting CPU load downward (hyper-threading and AMD's shared FPUs non-linearity not withstanding).

Now that I think about it, I'm having vague recollections of early versions of the boinc client having an option to limit work to a fraction of a systems sole available core back in the day; but that it was ripped out in favor of options built around using X cores when multi-core became common because having both around confused people.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

It's good to have a sunny weekend. What will you do? I will probably watch some Formula 1 (it's the during the morning here) and go outside after, maybe some beers..

I want the weather to be horrible.

Just spent £6k on a new engine for our '76 VW Camper and it broke after only 100 miles D'Oh! |

If the weather is grim I don't want to be out in the camper.

sth told me that you´re location is not very far away from mine, then I realized that I can check it by looking at your profile...
Wink | ;-)
you´re really not that far away so our weather forecast should be quiet the same...
I hope I´ll find some time to take my bike/velo and enjoy the forest´s spring awakening... Big Grin | :-D

GeneralRe: Spring!memberClodetta del Mar12 Apr '13 - 3:35
Gerne Smile | :)
Hamburg, cool! A very good friend of mine lives there, I hope to (re)visit Hamburg soon...

Pretty cool, so you´re able to speak English, Italian and deutsch?
that must be a big advantage to be able to speak more than two languages..
and, as far as i´m concerned, the second language I am able to speak is not as skilled as the first, the native language... Blush | :O
GeneralRe: Spring!membervonb12 Apr '13 - 3:38
I am speaking English, Italian, French and Deutsch.
French because my parents live in Lausanne, English because of coding and italian (the place is Lugano).
I never took italian classes, just learned it in public places, like bars.
The first 10 years here I had an american boss so office language was english, now it's italian, even a little bit dialect (lombardia style). Wink | ;)
GeneralRe: Spring!memberglennPattonWork12 Apr '13 - 3:41

GeneralRe: Spring!memberClodetta del Mar12 Apr '13 - 3:45

GeneralRe: Spring!memberglennPattonWork12 Apr '13 - 3:48
You type correctly. Now can we get Friends over the pond to stick a u in it?Confused |
GeneralRe: Spring!memberClodetta del Mar12 Apr '13 - 3:51

GeneralRe: Spring!memberglennPattonWork12 Apr '13 - 3:55

GeneralRe: Spring!memberClodetta del Mar12 Apr '13 - 3:57
Rocking compiler issues...
btw, I am absolutely unfamiliar with pascal.
is it compiled or interpreted? or parsed?
Confused | Confused |
GeneralRe: Spring!memberglennPattonWork12 Apr '13 - 4:03
At least 10 years since I last 'played' with it, if memory serves it was compiled. You could have some fun with the Borland Turbo version as you feed it some C commands and screw everything. Laugh |
GeneralRe: Spring!memberClodetta del Mar12 Apr '13 - 4:09
what were the impacts when "disturbing" the compiler´s stableness with foreign instructions...

a hanging IDE? check, quite amusing
or a hanging OS? check, very amusing, time to take a coffeebreak
GeneralRe: Spring!memberglennPattonWork12 Apr '13 - 4:13
You want humour, I have found a method of generating secuity certificates in Chinese but not English!
GeneralRe: Spring!memberClodetta del Mar12 Apr '13 - 4:15

URGENZ!

GeneralRe: Spring!membervonb12 Apr '13 - 4:32
Thanks, 10 more minutes and ciao (this is italo-international)
GeneralRe: Spring!memberClodetta del Mar12 Apr '13 - 3:44
Wow! Impressive.
For me french is a language that always had at least seven seals on it...
For my schoolmates, the most amusing moments i can guess of must have been when the teacher invited me to read some text...
I guess, it sounded as if I was trying to invent a completely new language... Roll eyes |
for your Italian skills, I guess that must be the most success promising way to learn a new language...

Respect, that´s cool!
Wink | ;-)
GeneralRe: Spring!membervonb12 Apr '13 - 3:52
Thank you sir,
by the way I forgot my 5th language, which is C#... Laugh |
GeneralRe: Spring!memberClodetta del Mar12 Apr '13 - 3:52
