Which would you prefer when coding, dark text on light background or light text on dark background?

Dark text, light background.
It's too Gothy otherwise.

Nope - the ink was dark, the parchment was light!

Light background during the day, dark at night. I never did work out why "night mode" wasn't built into OS themes from XP onwards.

And do you have a light sensor, like GPSs ?

(I sometimes use XP, under my rock)

Night mode in XP is simple. You turn off the monitor.

Whenever I am going to try this "Light text and dark background thing" at work my boss would kill me instantly. At least when we do the code review.
|
|
|
|
|

I realize this fact. But my boss doesn't.
And I am too lazy to change the settings of VS everytime my boss comes near my desk.

He understands it but doesn't want me to change the appearance either.

Oh, and give me back line numbering!
Why can't I be applicable like John? - Me, April 2011 ----- Beidh ceol, caint agus craic againn - Seán Bán Breathnach ----- Da mihi sis crustum Etruscum cum omnibus in eo! ----- Just because a thing is new don’t mean that it’s better - Will Rogers, September 4, 1932

I use a black background for all text editors, including code editors. It is much more restful on the eyes, and also on the battery of a laptop, though the first point is less relevant these days now that we don't have CRT monitors any more. It also means you can have much better contrast for your syntax colouring, as bright colours are picked up by the brain better than almost-black colours that you have to use on a pale background.
